I don't understand why the membership here is tearing each other apart. None of us are responsible for this horrible act. No one here could have prevented it from happening.

For a place that prides itself on enlightenment and Love, this behavior is entirely unacceptable.

When are school staff members going to be trained & allowed to use/have access to a gun that is secured somewhere within the school? If ONE staff member had a gun yesterday much less people would have been killed. Just my 2 cents.

If all of the victims, children or other, would've rushed the attacker - no matter if they'd been children, instead of running and trying to hide, perhaps one loss of life might have been averted...

The 2nd amendment was written with single shot muskets in mind, not guns that fire six shots per second (which are manufactured for the sole purpose of killing people). I could give a shit about your sporting needs or your constitutional rights.

So, let me see if I have this straight... Someone (teacher, the janitor, maybe the lunch lady) in every school has access to the Safety Gun in case of emergency at every school in the country. And when the Monster shows, they have the expert reactions to nip this in the bud with a few well placed shots. Do they train as marksman? Certifications? Liability in case they kill innocents with friendly fire?

Ever felt the panic rush of adrenaline? Do you really think average Joe who shoots at the range now and then is going to know how to handle a situation like this? Why stop at schools? Let's have a Designated Defense Shooter at every workplace too.

I feel safer already.

Limited access to handguns, background checks on all sales, etc is all well and good, but in most of these cases it seems someone snaps due to various personal pressures combined with some sort of mental illness or extreme instability. The bigger question is where is the support system for people who are approaching The Edge? Like I said earlier, creating grounded individuals is not a priority for most of our society. There's no percentage in that.

You're absolutely right. Increased federal funding for mental healthcare services is also an absolute necessity.

That is not the answer or solution to prevent what happened yesterday but the shooter could have been stopped. That was all i was trying to say. And just so its clear i do not own any assault weapons nor do i use weapons for sport. I completely agree that gun laws should be tightened, however this will not keep weapons out of the hands of people who don't follow the gun laws.

We're all criminals in the eyes of the state. Best to use more specific/less alienating language, imo. Potential murderers strikes me as more accurate. Not trying to be a jackass...it's just that the word "criminal" gets used a lot to justify viewpoints. The who/what of the term "criminal" is under constant flux as a result of social/cultural/economic/political pressures. A century ago, many of us would have not been considered criminals, today we are.
