nen888 wrote:and yes, people who treat DMT recreationally usually get very heavily 'thrown out' or scared off.. Once again, it depends on your view of recreation, but no. I didn't. I'm sure you're aware of amphetamines? Which substance has been harder on recreational users in your opinion? DMT is actually very gentle.

I suppose my last post was needlessly antagonising, but DMT has been very kind to me bearing in mind the logistics of the substance and your interpretation of recreational.
I don't play sports in pubs and between meals either.
Sex is also rare, but very recreational.

..yeah, it's gentle, it's like a teacher, it can't kill you (unlike above mentioned substances)
but i have heard some horror stories of people being offered their first smoke by some out of it multi-drug clown at a dance floor.. and seen such clowns really crumble under the weight of their dmt mis-use..
DMT's kind! just not some environments, people or other substances.. .

There's a big difference between the word 'fun' and the word 'recreational.' I also noticed a lot of people in here mistaking 'recreational' to mean taking something lightly, nonchalantly, or not serious, which is not the case. Recreational in terms of taking a substance simply means occasional use in contrast to constant use. The word 'recreation' comes from the latin root recreationem which means to recover from illness. & to go further, the stem 'recreare' means to refresh or restore oneself. That said, I do think that DMT is recreational in all senses of the word!!! Y'all need to look up words before you replace it with other words like 'fun' or project your own definition onto it b/c for some reason you think recreational means you're not taking it seriously. nen888 wrote:..'recreational' and 'dmt' in the same sentence is almost offensive!!

the only person you should be offended by is yourself, for projecting your own false definitions. recreational doesn't automatically mean you're nonchalant about it. you're just thinking about recreational drinking which you then attach in your mind for some reason that recreational must mean nonchalance and carefree. recreational drinking simply means that a person drinks on occasion. I'm a recreational DMT user because I only smoke DMT on occasion, that doesn't mean I don't take this occasion seriously.
If you aren't a recreational DMT user, than you either don't use DMT at all, or you're using it constantly. It has nothing to with how fun or enjoyable the experience is, or whether or not you attach spirituality or seriousness to it.

You can eat both for survival and pleasure.
Does eating for pleasure diminish the necessity for sustenance for survival too?
I remember we had a similar post before. Was it Oly M that hit the nail that time?

You get offended that someone would use recreational and DMT in the same sentence and then slobber out a personally offensive sentence at me. How nice of you... I'm not suggesting anyone young or old to do anything, I'm simplying showing you that you're projecting false definitions of the word recreational. You're giving the word 'recreational' a bad and false name... If you don't want to be involved with the discussion then "leave" . You're the one playing word games trying to create a false representation of 'recreational' making it seem like it's intrinsic to drinking, and therefore it cannot be associated with DMT.

Maybe you should take another look at a dictionary: recreational: Used for recreation, for fun or pleasure. recreation: Any activity, such as play, that amuses, diverts or stimulates. recreation: A pastime, diversion, exercise, or other resource affording relaxation and enjoyment. Fun, pleasure, amusement, diversion, stimulation, relaxation, enjoyment. DMT can be all of those things, but at the doses I choose to use it, itโs rarely recreational. Some people get colonoscopies occasionally, yet I wouldnโt call getting a colonoscopy a form of recreation! gibran2 is a fictional character. recreational: Of or relating to the occasional use, asserted not to be addictive, of narcotics from Online Etymology Dictionary: recreation (n.) late 14c., "refreshment or curing of a person, refreshment by eating," from O.Fr. recreacion (13c.), from L. recreationem (nom. recreatio) "recovery from illness," noun of action from pp. stem of recreare "to refresh, restore," from re- "again" (see re-) + creare (see create). Meaning "refresh oneself by some amusement" is first recorded c.1400; abbreviated form rec is attested from 1929. Verb recreate "to refresh by physical influence" is attested from c.1560, but not now used, probably from confusion with recreate.

There's too many factors on the table to just label right away DMT as "recreational", the way most people will understand the word. As in, taking DMT basically for relax, fun or pleasure. If we think of subbreakthrough doses, I'd say it can be faced recreationally. As for higher doses, I think The Traveler drew fast enough up there and shot the #1 point for me. Of course I cannot speak for others, but once I got an idea of what can be found inside DMT, the fact my experiences so far have been pleasant hasn't changed a bit my attitude towards it. No matter how cuddled I felt in that moment, or how dazzled I was looking at that, I don't think I could take DMT mainly to relax or have fun in doses larger than low. It CAN turn out very fun. But even if you have done a little homework and have an outline of what to expect, every time you try it, all bets are off. Pleasure, however, is a different word... there is this buzz of excitement, like exploring a new world with rules you don't understand. Like Marco Polo deciding to change course, heading underground and finding a dimensional portal. And he has to leave the camels, maps and bearers outside and cross it wearing nothing but his thighs. So for me, medium+ DMT doses can be used recreationally if you know having your reality reprogrammed turns you on, if you enjoy the unknown, if you don't mind having to fight the dragon now and then. But it takes a badass psyche to do that... and please don't read that as a fraternity challenge, but rather as an invitation to accept the fact that most of us are not that badass. DMT used recreationally would be like being on LSD in SevenEleven times Ten! It would be even more dangerous to attempt to operate machinery on it than so-called 'recreational drugs'. Being accidentally (or intentionally) given DMT to smoke could be far more potentially disturbing or traumatic for some than any of the substances listed in the OP as 'recreational' - the Definition which began this thread. I'm a tuff nut who could just about handle it. But there's some fragile individuals out there. They need good guidance, not another debate.

Once again... reading in bed is recreational. Surgery isn't.

The Mac dictionary says: Quote: recreational
-relating to or denoting activity done for enjoyment when one is not working. (recreational facilities; ..cycling in the countryside) -relating to or denoting drugs taken on an occasional basis for enjoyment esp. when socializing (recreational drug use)
Point One. It is often 'work', meaning not an easy ride, walk in the park, or easy to socialise with external world etc. Point Two. It has a connotation (means 'implication of such ideas or feelings' of the kind of things being refered to like pubs etc.

Well then everything's subjective i suppose. The clear definition of words is meant to result in objective discussion.
