Hello, friends.

I come asking about the potential probability of visiting tribes that have rituals such as ones involving psychedelics and like. I would really like to try both ayahuasca and iboga root, but I would only ever take them in the setting and context in which 'the pros' (ie the tribes that have culturally evolved with these substances for generations) are there. Where I'm sure a lot of such experiences may be very personal, I feel that both comfort of the situation and the effects would both be heightened if I was with someone who knew absolutely what they were doing, the way a shaman or holy man would often offer guidance in any typical example of such a thing.

I was just wondering how possible people think to actually be. I know well of Bruce Parry and his trips to several tribes around the world, how he lived with them for several months at a time and took their rites of manhood etc, and of course Terence and Dennis McKenna had several tripes into the Amazon seeking such a thing as well. I just have absolutely no idea where I would even start if I were to do such a thing. I am sure just walking up to a village and saying 'Hey, can I get smashed with you guys?' would not be the best approach at all. I don't know. I figured I'd put this out there, see what people had to say Smile

Love,
SS

There are many possible places you will love to see like this. There are alternative lifestyle communities all over the world which integrate holistic healing, therapy, cleanses, yoga, psychedelics, ceremonies. These are not like going to an indigeous tribe in the Amazon. They are more modern(depending where u choose, but most likely), with people from all over the world.

I've experienced this in Central America and had a great time doing a work exchange program with a community. They held all sorts of ceremonies and even parties with psychedelics. (Lsd Trance Night, in particular) very therapeutical Smile

Maybe not what you're looking for right now, but there are some really neat places in the world like this! Very happy

Mm, thank you for posting! I will have a look into these and see what I can find Smile I was particularly looking for something really deep and remote in Amazonian/Peruvian/African wilds, y'know, where a Caucasian man can be nowhere to be seen Razz But this will certainly be a good starting point! I will have a look around. Thank you Smile

If money isn't an issue, you could talk with a high-end travel agent. I have a friend who travels all over the world. He isn't into psychedelics but he does go to obscure places that most people wouldn't think to visit. He just tells his travel agent/vacation planner what he wants to see and do and let's them do the leg work.

Other than that, I would suggest research online. It shouldn't be too difficult to find what your looking for. Sounds fun. Good luck finding what your looking for.

I drank in ceremony for a few months with the Shipibo. I came to Peru looking for as real deal indigenouse peoples like your talking about and found it much harder to make happen than I ever expected. Ive written a lot about this topic in the aya sub forum.

Here are my thoughts. It really depends how un-effected by the modern world type of group your seeking. If you had a lot of money to make this happen it is possible but its also very dangerouse. The settlemnts like you see on nature and science televison programs are few and far between. They also follow no laws and rules other than their own so a translator, guide and negotiater are a must. I spent some time with one fella in Peru that tried to accomplish what I am talking about.

He had a guide and succeeded making contact with a group of indians in Brazillian Rain forest. He ended up being not allowed to leave for a month as the councel decided wtf to do with this white person that just showed up in their territory asking to drink ayahuasca. He said he was quite sure they were not going to let him leave and was very fearfull for his life. He never understood what they were saying about him and his guide abandoned him so he was held captive by the rain forest at the mercy of the group he barged in on. He was a big pain in the ass to them in their eye{s. If they kicked him out he waould die for sure in the forest so somebody had to step up and lead him back to a road many days away. It was quite obvious to my accaintence that it was much easier for the indians to just dispose of him. Luckily they did lead him out. And no he never drank ayahuasca with them. They were not at all pleased to have a suprise visitor wanting to join in their sacred rituals. He would not even say what area of the Amazon this happened for he gave stern warnings to anyone wishing to try what he did.

Now if your just looking for an authentic shaman or shamans that operate healing centers in South america you will find many. Some more legit and true that others. This buisness is booming here and there afre no shortage of bullshitters. They centers range from luvurouse and expensive with services like floral baths and pilotes to very rustic palm roof huts and dirt floors like the place I stayed at.

In the aya section there is a thread I wrote that may be helpful for you. Here it is
