Hello all,

I have been a long time lurker on this terrific forum, and after a less than successful extraction attempt, I thought it would be wise to join the community as a whole and share our experiences.

I am a 30 yr old ICU nurse from a city in the northeast US, and I have had a longtime fascination and enjoyment of entheogenic compounds. I have a few years of biology, anatomy and organic chem under my belt, and would love to put this knowledge to good use. I have had great success with growing fungus, however my two attempts to extract from mimosa and now acacia (now that mhrb is MIA) have yielded almost nothing, and I have yet to take my first steps into hyperspace. I hope to remedy this soon.

I remember 15 years ago, talk of DMT was like talk of the holy grail... this is before the real proliferation of the internet and terrific utilization of free speech to provide this information to so many people. I am a little frustrated that my attempts were unsuccessful, and am very eager to try again. My plan is to read even more than I have and hopefully identify the kinks in my operation.

I'm so sorry about your frustrating extractions, but am also very glad you decided to formally sign up. Now you can post questions as they come up in extractions, jump into chat for a quick answer, etc.

By the way, what extractions have you tried to date? The wiki link in the upper right hand corner of your forum pages has lots of extraction teks for a number of entheogenic plants.

Regarding my failed extraction attempts, I'll give a brief description here...

The first time was a small amount of mhrb bark, STB. I think that where I failed was in the final steps, as I did not reduce the amount of naptha that I put in the freezer. The result was a small amount of white crystals that melted as soon as I took the jar out of the freezer and quickly poured the solvent off.

The second was just yesterday, I got 220g of Acacia confusa root bark, and did Volvin's tek pretty much to the letter. The bowl that I was freeze precipitating in got a fair amount of white floaters, but they disappeared in filter paper as soon as I poured the naptha out. So what this tells me is that the final step is where I seem to be having trouble.

So, to those with more experience in freeze precipitating, is there any preference of containers for this step of the process? Is glass preferable for the crystals to stick to? My next attempt I was thinking of using a wide mouth half pint mason jar and making sure to evap the naptha until it is cloudy before placing it in the jar.

Yes, I use glass for freeze precipitation - pint sized Mason jars typically.

I think your first "failure" may not have been one. Maybe you didn't get a big yield and it all kind of disappeared in the filter. Did you try evaporating all of the remaining solvent to see if you wound up with some DMT?

I have never done an ACRB extraction. And yet your problem is one I have heard described with MHRB. Maybe try turning your freezer up. That and/or leaving your jar in longer - and put it in the back right where the freezing air comes in.

Also, BEFORE placing DMT containing naphtha in your freezer, evaporate off about 1/2 the total volume. Then transfer that remaining volume to a Mason jar and freeze for a good long time. Try not to peek. When it comes time to pour the solvent off into the filter, move rapidly.
