This is a topic with so many facets, that I find it difficult to find where to begin. I understand that DMT is not the same for everybody, so I'm simply going to talk about my own experiences and observations in the hopes that for those whom the experience is similar, that they may find my observations to be of use.

When I smoke DMT, the beginning usually starts in a fairly predictable fashion. As I'm holding in my hit(s), I'll be staring at whatever wall is in front of me. First two-dimensional patterns begin to form out of the paint. As I continue to focus on the wall (or pattern) in front of me, it will typically begin to break into the third dimension (and higher) as it pops out of the wall. These are perceived as energetic holograms (feeling magnetic to the touch). In my experience, both hyperspace and the entities are made of these OEV holograms. The holograms I see with my eyes open end up being the content of the closed eye visions.

At the commencement of an experience, I will typically have a stream of holograms emerging from the wall and coming over to make contact with me. I have noticed, that things tend to go particularly well if I can align (as if "in-phase" ) with them. It seems to give hyperspace some extra positive power with which to work its magic. Failing to do so in a big way has had me end up with some pretty disappointing experiences as well as with my eyes closed, the "perspective" just wouldn't be right, and I wouldn't feel connected to or engaged by the scene.

One day, I'm taking my hits, and as I'm holding them in and the holograms begin to steadily make their way over to me, I go to set down the GVG in front of me, and the holograms end up changing course and descending into the GVG instead of making contact with me. I assumed that it was my eyes that lead them down into it, as I had noticed that even when sober, sitting in meditation, that the direction that my eyes were pointing seemed to have a direct effect on the energy I perceived. It did end up resulting in a disappointing experience, and so next time I was determined to not make the same mistake. As I went to set the GVG down, I kept my eyes pointed steadfast ahead at the wall in front of me...and yet, as I set it down, the holograms began to descend into the GVG once again, but this time was not only where my eyes weren't pointing, but it was out of sight entirely!

It was at that instant that I had a small revelation about part of the mechanics of this energy (and consequently hyperspace and entities) is that it is my attention that has such a large effect on them, and not simply which way my eyes are pointing. It just so happens that usually where my eyes are pointing are looking at what I'm paying attention to, but this is not always the case, and I did a little self-experimentation to verify. For example, even when dead sober, if I closed my eyes and pointed them to the left let's say but thought about the right side of the room, I could feel very clearly a shift in the energy to my right side.

So now to recap, I believe that it is my attention that both literally adds energy to the holograms so that they may become more complex to do more complex things (i.e. shifting from 2D to 3D on up), and it can also potentially affect the way they move. I find this point to be extremely significant because let me tell you how my negative entity encounters usually begin. Often everything will be going just fine when I notice a slight blemish in hyperspace. Naturally the inconsistency will draw my attention as it becomes becoming more and more complex until now I have this malformed entity that has made its way over and is up in my grill. It seems clear to me now (after loads of these experiences) that it is specifically my attention to them that give them the power to wreak havoc in the first place, and I've been using this thought to my advantage most recently. When thinking back on Terence McKenna's famous description of what the elves said to him in regards to "pay attention to what we're doing," it perhaps never occurs to the reader to not pay attention to what the more "undesirable crowd" is doing.

I have had several chances on recent occasions to try out this new technique of "ignoring" and attention diversion. On 3 separate incidences now, when I've had negative entities become aggressive as they make their way towards me, I divert my attention from them as much as I can, focusing on many other things going on in the vision, and so far without fail, it has allowed me to "lose" them so-to-speak, and things resolve rather pleasantly. I am reminded of hearing all of those meditation exercise instructions regarding attention. I used to think it was so bogus; the thought of thinking about your left foot, and then the energy going there seemed absurd. Why should use your imagination have much of a noticeably tangible effect on anything? And yet, I am writing this in the hopes to convince some of you that it is most definitely true, and it can be used as a tool as perhaps your best potential ally both in self-defense, as well as making those amazing situations all the more amazing. Happy Thanksgiving. I'm grateful for the Nexus, and all of you guys...and DMT of course Thumbs up Love Laughing

I definitely see how this is possible, I will have to try this next time I see or sense undesireables in hyperspace.
I use this practice in day to day life as well. I try my hardest not to give any of my attention to negative people,
Or my own negative thoughts. I have had to cut a lot of people out of my life as a result,
but I notice a tremendous Diffrence.

I believe in the" Law of attraction". If you focus your attention on negativity then more negativity manifests.
If you focus your attention on positivity, then more positivity manifests. I have found this to be true in my experience.
IMO its all about keeping self awareness, and keeping it positive.

Thanks for sharing this Global, anything we can do to stay in the light and love!Thumbs up

If it has been posted before, I certainly haven't seen it. Cyb, if you find that thread, maybe paste in a link here?

Global, your articulation of the visual DMT phenomena is always clear and compelling. The "blemish" thing is really interesting- I've seen these glitches before in my CEVs and always have diverted my attention away from them, then later regretted the missed opportunity. But reading your post makes me think that perhaps it was the right way to go.

The whole idea of being mindful of where you focus your attention is a great metaphor for life in general, too, as Mz Gypsy points out. It's easy to forget how much control we have over our personal realities, which is why so many get stuck in negative feedback loops.

Lovely post and a great thing to keep in mind. I believe I do recall some past experiments of yours, Global, on the topic of focused attention and the results on the DMT experience and always found it very interesting.

I know what you mean about feeling a shift in energy towards where your attention goes. In the past I have done a few Tai Chi sessions which had a portion of it dedicated to focusing your attention. We were asked to close our eyes and focus on each muscle in our body, starting with the head/neck and working down, and then subsequently "letting go" of each muscle. I was blown away the exercise. Not only did I notice an "energy" shift as my attention shifted towards each new area, but "letting go" of each area actually seemed to removed it from my awareness. By the end of the exercise the group was essentially in a trance, aware not of the body and only of the mind until we were asked to let go of it as well.

Have you tried shifting your attention during other parts of the experience? I am curious if doing so may allow for a sort of guided travelling for the experience. Perhaps travelling to a specific visual area, transitioning from observing the Jim-Jam/Chrysanthemum to moving inside of it, or even picking an entity as a guide or friend for the journey to see or hear what zhe may have to show or say.

In regards to the Terrence McKenna quote, your thoughts on it immediately brought some experiences to mind. During the beginning of my hyperspace visits (on experiences when I am not seeing the Jim-Jam/Chrysanthemum) I will be in a tunnel of sorts with entities trying to capture my attention. One specific experience had Jesters strolling across the end of the tunnel from left-to-right, one after another, until finally I realized this was happening and focused my attention on one. This Jester who had almost left my field of vision immediately backstepped, looked directly at me, and I entered hir "show." I was from a much closer vantage point now and the Jester began to work a bio-mechanical machine, glancing up intently after doing certain actions as if to make sure I was observing everything that zhe was displaying.

Now I can recall each Jester that strolled by having a specific look/feel/aura and since I only "chose" one by focusing my attention on hir, I am curious if each particularly entity may have had a "show" ready if only my attention had been focused towards them.

I'm just about done with a BLAB so I hope to look into this soon. Thanks for sharing, Global!

I had an experience last night, my first oral syrian rue plus smoked dmt experience. It was the first time there were multiple entities all over the place for me, not just blended in with the visuals like before. It was also the first time the word "elf" came to mind for me in regards to their appearance. They were like wood elves. They really wanted me to pay attention. And as I told my friend this afterwards he said something along the lines of "I feel like the entities always tell you that." (to pay attention) However, I've only had two entity encounters, but both times they wanted this attention. So it's not just me I guess. I have heard McKenna say that before. They were all doing stuff really fast and wanted my full attention but I couldn't stop being so astonished. I also didn't have a good meditation beforehand like usual so that probably played in

I have touched on a number of these points probably multiple times, but some of my recent experiences helped me connect the dots a bit better, so I thought I would tie everything together into this "ignoring in self-defense" idea which is something of the new part for me.

Shifting my attention does indeed seem to change the flow of things, and consequently where I end up/what I end up seeing, but my navigation abilities are pretty crude, and for the moment seem best used for negative entity evasion. Any time I've tried to navigate, I usually end up "out of bounds" or something of the sort Laughing

Global,

I was wondering how often do you keep your eyes closed during the experience VS. open eyes?

Also, I too have noticed that the negative entities or whatever they are seem to absorb my attention if I let them and it's true that the more I pay attention to them the worse the images get.

I suppose this is why negative entities appear to be horrific or shocking in some way in order to effectively capture our attention?

I will rarely keep my eyes open the whole time, though I have done it. Typically my eyes are open at the beginning and the end. Usually when interesting things stop happening with my eyes closed, I'll open my eyes and finish out the vision like that.

I wouldn't be surprised if the negative entities appear shocking for the same reason positive entities appear beautiful and yeah, I would think it could have a lot to do with attention. I think this is the concept behind physical pain (or pain of any kind perhaps). The natural human reaction to pain when having it is to try and avoid it and try to get one's mind off of it. Perhaps this might be the wrong approach however. I think pain is like a little alarm beacon that's screaming "pay attention to me" and the reason why it wants you to pay attention to it is because it may affect the energies to expedite healing. Does that make sense?

what you said about pain in relation to negative entities makes a lot of sense.
I never thought of it like that.

I always considered the idea that the negative entites whether part of our own psyche or not, represent healing that needs to be done in one way or another, which is why ignoring them is not a very effective way to deal with the phenomena from my experience.

The pain analogy is really quite clever I must say,

Why didn't i think of that? Big grin

Great thread.

Quote:
The word psychedelic (From Ancient Greek ψυχή ( psychê ) mind, soul + δηλος (dêlos) manifest, reveal + -ic) was coined to express the idea of a drug that makes manifest a hidden but real aspect of the mind.

As I've grown more in touch with myself and learned to let more things go, I've noticed that the visual space I see on psychedelics will literally reflect this. Walls flow more, colors flow more, etc.

For me it's helped to serve as a road sign, leading me towards deeper awareness and understanding of myself.

Personally I've come to believe my negative and even the positive entities encountered on DMT were aspects of myself that needed integration. They started to feel more and more like Jungian archetypes. The negative entities my fear and anxiety. One particularly scary one I believe was my anger needing to be healed. He was always trapped behind a thin wall trying to claw his way out. The gnomes, my inner child wanting to come out and play. And of course God... my unconditional love and understanding of myself needing to be expressed.

I really think the idea you've introduced here makes a whole lot of sense. Because your post on my trip report presented your idea and led me here, I'm going to copy and paste and then edit a bit from a couple of thoughts I already wrote in my previous thread.. thoughts that are pertinent to your thread and your idea....

Maybe other people will have some more ideas.. because I've been trying to interpret what happened here (particularly in #2):

1.) The fact that you say the entities or visions might move where our attention goes makes sense when considering the fact that during my trip, when I would be using or touching an object and then set it down, the object would often appear to diverge in all directions (actually appearing to split into pieces as if it were a bomb going off and all of its pieces being forced out from the center). This would make sense because my attention was, well.. diverging from the object and moving on to focus on nothing in particular, AKA the general space around me.

2.) When I was reading the part of your thread about avoiding negative energies or entities, it reminded me of the DMT trip I had during my last mushroom/caapi trip where I was warned to avoid a certain part of the yard. In fact, now that I think about it, it may have even had something to do with the fact that I'd been bringing these "empty space" energies towards myself continuously through the entire journey and that maybe this time, it wouldn't be wise to do that when looking at this particular part of the yard. Perhaps it was a warning to not focus on that space because it wouldn't be good for me to bring the negative energies over to myself. Does that make sense? I remember when I saw how that part of the yard was glowing and felt a threatening energy from the area, I felt that I shouldn't focus on that part of the yard but rather I should focus my attention on other aspects of my surroundings and stay alert so as to not let the negative energy in.

I'm still not sure whether to take this literally or metaphorically, but either way I am not going to over think it - just integrate it and use as food for thought, and I found it interesting in light of your thread.

Thanks for leading me here. Smile
I am also Psychedaniellia (https://www.dmt-nexus.me/forum/default.aspx?g=profile&u=15453 ) on here, apparently. I didn't mean to make two accounts… :/

According to a lot of other peoples' signatures, every statement and story told on this website seems to be fabricated. And on account of the supreme weirdness of life, I must agree and do testify to this! :]

I think your idea of the yard makes sense. It doesn't just seem to be you against the negative entities....they don't seem to get along with the "good guys" either. They can get into clashes and scuffles, but if positive entities have chosen to intervene, there has only been one time when they weren't able to trump the others...but usually they're pretty good at it.

When I read the description of your "empty space" OEVs in your thread, it sounded like we're beholding a very similar phenomenon. At the start of an experience where these multidimensional holograms start forming out of the air, the most complex that it's ever gotten has been where in the first 20 seconds or so, before even managing to close my eyes, I had two six-foot Egyptian sentinel "statues" just kinda floating around my bedroom...
