Ok so I made a 6 week tincture with valerian root powder and everclear that was slightly diluted with water. I filtered it off and have tried it a few times with very minimal results. Nothing to write home about.
At the same time that I filtered the first valerian tincture off and bottled it, I added a decent amount(probably a half oz or more) of calea(dream herb) to another jar of valerian root tincture that I had originally intened on letting go for even longer. I let it sit another 4-6 weeks with the calea in there as well.
Last week I filtered it off, let the valerian sediment settle, filtered again, and repeated... until I obtained a very dark but slightly translucent liquid.
First of all, I don't know if the calea sucks up some of that valerian powder or what, but it seemed like i was able to filter the one with calea down to a much cleaner liquid with less valerian root sediment in the final product.
So I tried it 3 nights in a row this week. Pretty bitter but I actually found it more pleasant than the valerian. I've been using the dropper to deliver the tincture in between my cheek and teeth and let it absorb a bit into the cheek area. I tried under the tongue but the everclear made it burn too much for my liking. One word of advice, if you get the liquid on your tongue you better have something to chase it because it is quite BITTER.
Anyways, I wasn't expecting much from this concoction other than bitterness and possibly some mild relaxion. I was wrong. The first night I took about a dropper full an hour before bed. I must clarify that i have better than average dream recollection as it is but this definitely seemed to add a little clarity to the dream experience and I had a very vivid sense of what I had been dreaming when i awoke in the morning. I did not feel any of the reported valerian groggyness either.
The 2nd night I did the same thing and WHOAH.... In my past experience I've been able to become lucid in the sense that I realize that I'm dreaming, but I've never been able to manipulate the circumstances of the dream. This all changed that 2nd night. I was literally roaming around the dream world, knowing that I was dreaming, and I spent the entire night seducing random females that I had never met before. The interaction was as if I were fully conscious and knew that I was actually at hom in bed, but that I was navigating this space willingly at the same time. It was incredible. I had taken a long nap during the day earlier so I ended up in that sort of half awake/half asleep state for the last several hours of the night. I oftentimes become aware that I'm dreaming during this type of sleep and I will just close my eyes and go back into the dream. However, this was on a whole new level.
I wouldn't say that I was in total control(I didn't take off and fly around the world with a superman cape or something), but it certainly felt like I was building up towards that kind of control. I remember I kept waking slightly, thinking "WOW", and going right back into it.
The third night I experienced the same kind of results, slightly different circumstances. Very vivid dreamscapes in which I was actively/consciously exploring, along with detailed social interactions with the dream people that I had manifested.
I can't say for sure how much the tincture helped because as I stated, I have been on the verge of full lucidity for a while. But there was something totally different and unique about these experiences that led me to beleive that it had to be the tincture helping me break through into my dreamscapes.
I look forward to further trials. I'll definitely follow up once I have done some more experimentation.
I just wanted to share with you guys and encourage anyone to explore the effects of calea! Start making some tinctures folks, whatever they may be! Natures medicine is the best medicine! : )
