It's already there, if you can't see it that just means you need to smoke more changa.

To explain it a bit further:

To me there is a difference between a hierarchy that is just there to highlight an artificial difference between people, and a hierarchy that is there to point out the members who have specific qualities and responsibilities so that you can lookup their posts (remember, in the search you can enter the name of the member who's post you want to search through) or contact them in case of an urgent issue.

Furthermore I need a lot of help with several issues involving the DMT-Nexus, the senior members help me with this and are therefor a great asset to the overall quality of the DMT-Nexus. Without the senior members we would not have so many things in place as we have now, and there is still a lot more to come!

And last but not least: The senior members are automatically chat-moderators to keep unwanted activity away from the chat and they have the ability to reset the forum or the chat when there is an error that will not go away, for this I only want completely trusted people at the controls!

So as you see there is quite a lot of responsibility that comes with being a senior member, it's not just an artificial label to promote division.

Kind regards,

The Traveler

Thanks for clarification I understand it better now, just hadn't seen anything about it and thought I would ask. That clears that up then cheers

I could not help but notice when I hovered my mouse over Traveler's icon that among his skills are ICT, Programming, and LSD.

I agree with your system Trav but i think it's the wording that throws me. A senior member to me means someone who has been here the longest served kinda thing. If it were to be "forum helper" or invaluable elf creature or whatever it would make more sense.

Maybe i just see things a bit different but a change of wording would clear things up no end Pleased

In my case I think it means 'old fart'.

I too agree with this system but I really dislike when I see people here talk about the higher ranks! Just sounds bad.

When we talk about this Id like to ask something. Is there any other Administrator with all your rights as you have ? I only ask for security just in case you are not able to be here for some time? Not that I want anything happen to you but this question just came to my mind while reading this thread.

So in bad case scenario is there anyone else ?

I've never really thought about it being a bad thing, I had wondered for a while what a Senior Member was or did but never got round to asking. Now I know!

I do wonder if, as has been mentioned, there could be a better title that doesn't doesn't risk implying that some members are better than others. I really like the idea of 'Forum Helper' as someone else suggested or something similar. It makes it clear what their function is and doesn't make other forum members feel they are less worthy as many have expressed in this thread.

If members feel less worthy because they don't get to have insignias, then maybe they are not worthy indeed, maybe not even for DMT itself. There is extensive rambling here on how DMT and entheogens enhanced our understanding of the world, and introduced overwhelming love for anything alive etc. but when it comes to distinction based on actual expertise, instead of showing acceptance, we crave for social status.

Let us not forget that this is an educational, informative, and harm reduction network, that provides quality discussions and expertise. That should be priority No.1.

P.S. I think the icons are extremely helpful, because if one needs to contact someone specific like a chemist, a moderator, a medical doctor, or someone who knows the site and its contents like the back of their hand, they know how to look for them.

What you don't understand, you can make mean anything. - Chuck P.

Disclaimer and clarification: This member has been having brief intermittent spells of inattention. It looks as if he is daydreaming in place. During those distracting moments, he automatically generates fictional content, and asks about it in this forum for feedback. He has a lot of questions, and is a pain in the arse.

But until this thread came along very few knew why they would want to specifically contact a Senior Member.

How do you know that? Has there been a survey conducted?
Maybe no one cared, why would they...

..the only difference being a so-called senior is for me is that i get to help out when there are serious problems to deal with on the Nexus, security issues etc..it's extra responsibility, not a holiday or lounge club..
the cleaning and nuts n bolts of the engine..some nexians have been asked if they want this responsibility and turned it down..i understand why..

I think this thread itself answers that question.

As I mentioned, I for one have wondered for a fair while now what function Senior Members perform and I'm happy that this thread has answered that question for me.

I really like how it shows the members skills when you hover over their icon.

In the spirit of making it easier to find the right people for the right job, might I suggest you also make it where the same information pops up when you hover over the members name as well?

Also a little icon next to their name in the who's online section might not be a bad idea either. Or a section in the who's online just for moderators/seniors/helpers.

I'm just throwing out ideas for new members who aren't familiar with everyone and their skills. The Nexus is growing so fast it's hard to keep up, even for some of us that have been around for awhile.

All of you guys on the admin/moderation/senior/helper teams are doing marvelous jobs and I really can't express my gratitude enough.

I know agreed!

I don't care about daft wee symbols next to my name, Its not about my ego or feeling of unworthiness it was about hierarchy and division and now it's been cleared up and everyone knows exactly what they mean. There was no announcement or mention that I could see, granted ive not been on in a while but now we know and and if it helps improve this site which it probably will then great, just I didn't know as did many others what they meant.

Loving your avatar though demented thats hilarious Big grin
