well, i broke through. i think. i was completely out of body in another dimension, geometry and a white light, and then all of a sudden i was back in my body with tears of joy running down my face. it felt like some sort of insane, euphoric purge. very bizarre. i also think i sat straight up at some point from laying in my bed. but it seemed like it only for a short amount of time - i forgot to look at a clock :/. awesome experience and i'm pretty damn sure i got the gvg technique down now.

now, to the bad - i've been smoking weed (and now hash) pretty much daily for the past 4 years. i live in california and have my mmj card and it works for me at this point in my life. however, i can't remember my dreams, ever. so, i'm wondering if that's why i can't recall most of my journey last night. it was so rapid and new... prior to that i had just gotten mild visuals and a good body high, but last night i was determined and something clicked/happened, but i didn't hear (or don't recall) a frequency and see a cosmic chrysanthemum or anything. i know that ever journey is different, but i'm just curious for some input.

two other factors - i've been taking cymbalta for about 5 years and have started to taper this year, am down to 15mg from 60mg. obviously has an impact on how the brain functions...
and also i had taken two smaller hits prior to the two large breakthrough pulls... i read on here that you can't break through twice in about an hour so maybe the exposure before the proper hits made my journey last longer? i'm probably over thinking.

e:
kind of weird but since i've delved into this whole experience, i'm actually considering taking a break from weed because of dmt. i probably won't, but i'm considering it.

Good quality Syrian rue (Peganum harmala) for an incredible price!

Its strange I'm able to brake through repeatedly within a short time span, after arriving from wherever, I take another and with the same intensity as the first I'm imploded back in. I'd repeat this for maybe 4 hour sessions If not longer at times. It seems waiting an hour really is of no significance towards getting the most out of this molecule. I wonder If there is any scientific explanations that prove otherwise.
Its in your head

This is my first post...
Thumbs up
I have had the same type of experience. I was in bed at night, trying to sleep after taking some golden caps.
I remember seeing a spiral within a spiral within a spiral leaving a liquid...during this whole vision i could feel myself surging foreward (kind of like dry-heaving). I awoke and I was crying. SO when I read the OP I instantly covered my mouth in amazement.

I have been smoking weed since 2009, and hopefully weed has'nt damaged my Pineal Gland :/

I'd like to comment on the MJ aspect.

In my personal experience, when MJ is used daily for any length of time it will almost completely suppress dream recall and definitely has a negative effect on my levels of mental organization and consciousness/spiritual awareness/abilities/whatever you want to call it.

However, if only used every now and then (for me, once every week or 2 weeks, in meditation)I find that MJ is an amazing tool in the quest for conscious evolution.

I smoked daily for 4 years as well and in the years since then I've discovered that it has such drastic effects on my overall well-being that I'll never go back to smoking it the way I used to. It is still a close love of mine, but one that I need to keep at just the right distance.

If you're interested in getting your dream recall back and/or experimenting to see if or how your experiences with other entheogens could be different/better, I'd highly recommend experimenting with your smoking habits.

I have no personal experience with Cymbalta, however.

Now, all that said - I don't really see anything wrong with your experience. Smile It sounds beautiful. Sometimes the feelings are more than any visual or auditory experience. My experiences, as like many others, display much variation - both in what I experience and how much I'm able to remember/bring back. Sometimes it's a lot and sometimes it's very little, and often in totally different ways.

Just to note we are all different.

I smoked from the age of 14-32 every day, at 32 I had some medical issues so I decided to take myself off weed. I stopped totally for some time (I started again after a few weeks, but smoking much less). I thought stopping would make a huge difference to motivation and sleep.

Zero change.

I have never had any issue with dreams or recall of them with or without weed.

The past 6 months I've smoked more heavily after 2 years smoking very little, again no difference in sleep, dreaming or recall.

Hi There insectwarfare,

Thank you so much for your post. Not up to anyone to define or say yes/no to whether or not you had a breakthrough but Laughing it sure read like one to me.

Now, regarding MJ, memory, dreams, trip recall, etc. I feel I'm fairly qualified to speak here. But, I caution everyone reading this that I'm not a medical or research professional and this is strictly one woman's personal opinion.

I have been a chronic, daily MJ smoker for about 25 years now. I smoke it medically (have a mm card) and recreationally. I love growing it. It is my lifelong plant ally. Other plants and chemicals come and go but good ole mary jane has taken good care of me over the decades.

I have heard many pot smokers say they have difficulty with or zero dream recall. I have got to say this is not the case for me but I kind of trained myself to be this way. I used to keep a dream journal by my bedside and I highly recommend this for self-training of dream recall. First thing you do upon awakening is open the journal and grab the pen (or open computer, etc.) and jot down whatever you recall. Don't recall anything? Jot down impressions or feelings or memories you have right NOW. Get in the habit of doing this constantly and it should come.

Now, regarding difficulty with DMT trip recall: Yeah, this can be difficult, even for non MJ smokers. The deeper I go, the harder it gets to remember specific details it seems. Here's a few things I've learned to do that distinctly help:

1.) Do not smoke any MJ within an hour or two of launch. I want to feel almost baseline and not heavily stoned when I pick up my GVG.

2.) As the trance takes me I attempt to surrender and return love. If there's any coherent thoughts or prayers left I ask for "learning and memory."

3.) As the trance begins to break, or at least as I return to my body and begin to realize I'm not dead, this is just a DMT trip etc., right here, right NOW is when I work on trying to remember the trip. I repeat what happened over and over to myself. I repeat it out loud. I cement the memory in place. Otherwise, it flits away into the short-term ether. This sacrifices something though - there is a price to be paid - it's like I don't enjoy the comedown as much as I do when I just don't even worry about memory or anything and just bathe in euphoria, laughter, tears, etc. But, I, personally, WANT to remember my trips and believe my best lessons are learned from conscious experiences and memories so I am happy to make that sacrifice. This is more than getting high for me.

4.) Write trip reports and date them. Go back and read them again after a few months, a few years, etc. have passed. That helps cement things long term also.

I hope this helps. . . .

Thanks for bring up this topic of discussion insectwarfare. I believe this will help others looking for answers to this subjective question.

I was a daily marijuana smoker for close to 5 years. In those years, my dream recall was close to 3 dreams per month. I too wondered like you whether I had done harm to my body/brain. To my amazement after I quit smoking marijuana completely (sober 4 months at the moment).

The dream recall came back 1-2 weeks after sobering up and now my dream recall has been skyrocketing since then. I'm up to 3-4 dreams per night now.

My speculation on the reason why this is, is that using marijuana chronically or right before one sleep inhibits REM sleep in some users.

REM sleep is believed to be linked to dreaming, memory recall/formation, muscle growth, and hormone release.

Hope this information/self-experience helped.

Moderation is the key, Daily use of MJ is going to mess up your short term memory. I did an experiment during a semester of school and found, with Mj daily use I averaged a low A on all tests but found my retention of the knowledge presented to be close to nil, When using twice weekly I averaged a high A and found my retention of info at about 50-75% depending on the class and my interest in it. No mj and I had full retention of knowledge no matter my level of interest and was able to get straight 100% on all tests.

When using DMT and Harmals for extension, but no other chemicals twice a week, I had so much extra time, after reading and studying, and scoring perfect in all tests for my full array of classes, that I had extra time and a general boost in energy, to spend on my art classes and was able to do two versions of most projects from stippling to extensive oil paintings, that would usually take many hours and a big chunk of my daily creative and physical energy.

When using no chemicals at all I was able to mantain high grades and full retention but found that in classes I didn't have much interest in, I was bored.

I drink calea tea three times a week and have found that through the above periods of abstination and mj/dmt use that I had no problem remembering dreams.

With MJ moderation is key! Try calea on tea on nights you don't smoke and see if your dreams are easier to remember.

Dmt is such a good anti-depresant, it gives me Fuel and makes my interst and energy more purposeful and no matter what the info. being taught is, I find it very interesting and useful.

MJ: Occasional puff puff every few weeks
DMT/Harmalas: once a week creates a well I can draw water from constantly, and it seems to have no end
Calea tea: Helps me remember and retain dreams, with occasional lucidity being acheived. no matter what chemicals I use.

I love all of you!

MJ always screwed my dream recall completely when using everyday. Didn't mind though because when I don't smoke I have really vivid dreams and at one point was lucid dreaming twice a night and honestly the dream state got kind of boring to me but yeah just throwin it out there ^___^ I assume it would similar with DMT but I never smoked before smoalking.

I've been smoking weed pretty much every day for about 4 years. It does seem to dull my dream recall, although I can usually still remember a pretty big chunk of dream every morning, which I commit to memory. When I don't smoke my dreams are much more vivid and clear the next morning. I think the difference is due to the whole short term memory thing, since there doesn't seem to be a qualitative difference in the dreams that are had. Also if I haven't smoked weed in a while my dreams are often about smoking weed... must be an addict or something.

I smoke daily. And have vivid dreams almost nightly. I must be a freak. It does have a negative impact on short term memory though, so maybe that is why you stoners can't remember your dreams Laughing
