Question - Is this true? I can simply shred a colonized BRF cake on a cheese grater? (I should boil the grater first I imagine) How about simply cut it up with a knife?
I hope to be able to do this, and mix this into a bulk medium. I wonder if anyone knows - I have a couple of S.Amer strains; would you recommend manure/straw or coir/verm? Any specific recommendation on proper tek when mixing into bulk for a monotub type of deal?
I should probably be over @ The Shroomery, but I appreciate any help received. Thank you!

that is a viable method, and those are good substrates
however, sterility should be observed when transferring mycelium to substrate.
I'd suggest doing the transfer in an improvised glove box, and have some antibacterial
spray handy.

Take your cake and crumble them up in your hands and mix into your bulk sub. Do this is a clean area and it should only take a couple min tops. use coir and verm as bulk damions5050 coir tek is best.

I used to crumble up with my hands, either PF caces or colonized rye. Rye usually worked better but PF gave results as well.

I used a mix of coir and straw and a bit of verm and topped it off with a layer of verm to keep the moisture in.

Definitely make sure all your tools, your hands and all things that come into contact with the myc are sterile. Bulk medium should be pasteurized. The higher the ratio mycelium to bulk, the faster it will be colonized and the less chance you have of other organisms taking over. However the higher your ratio is, the less additional nutrients your little babies will have so less yield in the end.

I used to do the transfer in a bathroom. before I started I would scrub the walls and floor with chlorine. then spray all the immediate surfaces and tools down with disinfectants (alcohol or the likes). Sterility is important.

Check the link out in my signature, maybe it can help you.

You can use pretty much anything to rip up the cakes, a cheese grater is a very inventive idea though. Kudos to Crazyhorse!

I personally use coco and verm for my substrate. You add dry coco and verm into a clean 5 gallon bucket with lid, boil a pot of water and dump it into the bucket till it covers everything. Pop the lid on and let it sit for 2 hours, give it a good stir, cover 'till it's completely cooled down. Just sandwich your spawn with that and put in a cupboard for about 10 days to colonize. I've had great success with that method, it's painfully simple and the results were beyond my expectations.
