This is real. Marijuana is legal in Washington now. This is from the Seattle Police.

Trav - The writer, Jonah Spangenthal-Lee, used to write for Seattle's edgy weekly "The Stranger" as a crime reporter. He was hired by the police department just last March to help improve their communications.

And yes, I agree, reading stuff like this is completely intoxicating. I think it is fair to say that Seattle has one of the most liberal marijuana policies (for personal use) in the western world right now. It would be very, very hard to get in trouble for smoking or carrying less than an ounce (an ounce!!) of marijuana right now in Seattle. Almost impossible.

Public smoking is still illegal but extremely low priority - sharing a pipe on the sidewalk outside of music clubs at the set break has stopped being camouflaged in any way at all. (We banned all indoor smoking years ago). People are up and down the sidewalk lighting up and enjoying.

We still do not have a legal way to buy it (for non-medical purposes), but the truth is it's EVERYWHERE, and supposedly the legal distribution system will be set up within 12 months. We shall see...

Now if only I liked using the stuff! It's fine but not my favorite.
