I've briefly searched for an answer to this but it is a bit overwhelming and thought I should really be contributing more than just an opening essay.

I have a couple of pretty simple questions below.

I realise that DMT has a low melting point and one day came home to find my bag had turned into an oily mess.

I had read that I could simply put it into the fridge and it would turn back to normal.

This didnt seem to work so I have had it in the freezer now for quite a while until I remembered about it and had a look to see it was still essentially an oil.

It is pretty dark and greasy.

I'm sure people have come across this problem, I'd really appreciate some feedback.

I can upload a pic of it to let you know what I'm talking about if that is going to help.

Does the DMT turn bad or go "off" when it is in this state, over time?

Should I still try to use this in a Vapout Genie?

How did you make it? Which solvent, which source? Did you get white crystals when extracting it?

EDIT: Also, yes, a picture could help. You can probably dissolve it all in acetone, evaporate on a dish and recrystallize it that way. It should as said below still be smokable, but the color makes me worry a bit so to get a perfect answer a little more specific information could be of use.

it sucks to move around, but that is my favorite kind. it is best to mix it with tea or some other dried herbage for smoking. i add herbage and mix till its almost not sticky an pack it into something with a chamber. unless you want to continue chemically processing it to get a more refined product. i do believe it will oxidize into something that feels slightly different but don't quote me on that.

If the DMT is an oil, it's probably DMT-oxide and not just melted DMT. DMT-oxide won't (or has a very hard time) crystallizing. I believe there's a "zinc reduction" or something of the sort you can look up to convert it back to freebase and then you can crystallize it. I've never done it, but it's something you can look into.

Another amount from presumably that same extraction remained an off-white to yellowish powder. I had relative success in vapourising that second batch, but this one I kept in the freezer in the hope that one day I would be able to ask someone about it's viability. That time is now.

This has been in a freezer for months and it has definitely not turned into a solid.
The product was in a small plastic bag which was in a small ziplock baggy which was then sealed in a larger ziplock bag folded and placed into the back of my freezer.

I had a similar problem with mine when I first extracted it. Used q21q21s fluffy white funfest tek and scraped up the goo once I thought all the naphtha had dissolved (couldnt smell it or anything) later I figured out that I should let it set in the evaporating dish at least a day or two (in a cool clean area) and it dried into a powder I was able to scrape up. perhaps it just still has solvent in it that has not evaporated? after scraping mine up, and recrystalizing it came out fluffy and white, and sits in a nice powder form happily waiting to be used

A lot of the time when people think they have oxides its really just DMT and oils. My advice would be to put that stuff in a good amount of naphtha and get as much as possible to dissolve without agitating it too much. Try to leave behind any of the reddish stuff on the bottom and siphon off the DMT saturated naphtha. Crystallize it slowly. Let it stand at room temperature for a good many hours, then the fridge. Crystals should be growing by this point, then move it to the freezer. Once precipitated drain off all of the naphtha then put the container back in the freezer upside down to let the remaining solvent run off without dissolving the DMT. Then let it fully dry before scraping it up.

that looks exactly like the best batch i ever had. it was like smoking shrooms, if that worked. mixed with oregano it was a totally smooth smoke, didn't cough once. i'd cut the sides of the bag and lay it flat, dust oregano over it, and use a credit card to slide it all off against a hard surface, then toss it like salad, add more herbage if needed.

then i would smoke it all day.
