Why are you interested in scopolamine in the first place? Are you aware of the physical dangers of scopolamine and related plants? We focus at other plants and substances in the Nexus. We might discuss other plants if there is a clear context for it. Substances as risky as scopolamine/atropine and the plants containing also need some explicit mention of the risks they entail and things of the sort. So please, expand more on the why's and the context to your questions. Here's what the attitude section says: Attitude Section wrote:Safe and constructive drug talk
This forum is not a place for superficial unsafe talk of drugs such as excessive use and dosages, unsafe combinations and settings and careless use of substances that naturally have a riskier profile without due disclaimers and clear signs of having learned from mistakes and offering insights for better usage. See this thread for more info: Policy regarding discussion of different drugs. Also we do NOT give medical advice here (such as telling people not to see doctors and go to shamans for serious medical problems, etc), as this thread explains. Lastly, please read the Health and Safety section for contraindications, facts and tips on safety, reducing risks, dealing with difficult experiences, integrating the trips and maximizing benefits.

Scpolamine hydrobromide is scopolamine hydrobromide, irrespective if its natural or lab-synthesised.Im not sure if the hydrobromide salt is whats found in the plants you mention. Its dnagerous stuff and not a subject we like to discuss much here. I am paranoid of my brain. It thinks all the time, even when I'm asleep. My thoughts assail me. Murderous lechers they are. Thought is the assassin of thought. Like a man stabbing himself with one hand while the other hand tries to stop the blade. Like an explosion that destroys the detonator. I am paranoid of my brain. It makes me unsettled and ill at ease. Makes me chase my tail, freezes my eyes and shuts me down. Watches me. Eats my head. It destroys me.

This is the second thread in as many weeks on scopolamine. I can't think of any good reasons to mess with scopolamine. It's no secret that the "devils breath" is used to rob and rape people. Back in the early 90's I remember hearing about 4 people in New Mexico who drowned in 3 ft of water at a rainbow gathering after eating Jimsonweed. I would stay away from anything related to the nightshade family. Has anyone had an enlightening experience with these substances? I'm all ears. Everything I've ever heard has been really negative. []Deace I am completely convinced that there is a wealth of information built into us, with miles of intuitive knowledge tucked away in the genetic material of every one of our cells. Something akin to a library containing uncountable reference volumes, but without any obvious route of entry. And, without some means of access, there is no way to even begin to guess at the extent and quality of what is there. The psychedelic drugs allow exploration of this interior world, and insights into its nature. - Shulgin

Amazing how bad it is to me... Had been given patches for motion sickness years ago, had a horrible horrible horrible reaction. And just last month, again, a dr tried to prescribe it for nausea- is this really the same thing? The patch and the scop hydrobromide?
Pull this if mods would rather any discusssion not even be in here... Thx
RayTracer- the nightshade family, solanaceae, includes tomatoes, potatoes, eggplant, chili peppers, tobacco, petunia, amongst other edible plants...

Quote:the nightshade family, solanaceae, includes tomatoes, potatoes, eggplant, chili peppers, tobacco, petunia, amongst other edible plants... I had no idea. I've only heard nightshade in reference to belladonna, datura etc. I feel like an idiot Oh well, thanks for informing me. Def not an idiot! Not 100% on this but I think it is why we only eat the fruits, not anything green on those plants - like potatoes that have gotten green from exposure to sunlight, but don't know how green tomatoes fit in there then... Hrm. There is a veg tuber eaten in Africa and SA (cassava, yuka, aipim- has many names) that contains cyanide, but properly prepared, it is a delicious staple food. Oh the wonders of plants, their benefits and dangers...

^^Certainly when it comes to green potato skins, avoidance of ingestion is mainly due to the dioxin content. I am paranoid of my brain. It thinks all the time, even when I'm asleep. Coincidently, just before reading this I've taken Butylscopolomine ( Buscopan) against stomach pain/cramps. They state the butyl-bromide moiety prevents any CNS effects. The company who produces it make the extractions from the genus Duboisia ( sp.) Australian native.
The Aboriginees also use Duboisia hopwoodii as an entheogen.
But agreed, deliberately ingesting Datura, Belladona, etc for their deleriant qualities is a bad idea.

It would be an easy task converting it to freebase or HCl-Scopolamine. Let's hope nobody finds out.

dangerous chemicals in these plants, i would personally try to avoid. however i would like to try to grow datura or brugmansia because they are really beautiful plants "science never proves anything; you can never duplicate an event precisely at the same moment in time as the initial event. science can only show correlation from the evidence and data derived from it." -benzyme

the flowers smell really strong, but quite nice. there is a myth in the south-american area. they dont sleep under that tree because they have horrific nightmares. i had one experience with datura tea years ago and i wouldnt ever do it again. i suggest you stay away from these chemicals. With these hands I have killed man and destroyed hopes and dreams. But when I open these hands I can hold my wife, make my children laugh and even aid others. Not directly related to the initial post, but in respone to RayTracer, I've recently read this article (below) about scopolamine therapy in smoking cessation. I like to think there can be a benefit to most things on our planet, even something as wild as this. Granted, I think ibogaine has much more promise. Interesting, sad even, that American society has chosen such a crazy drug to treat addiction when there are much, shall we say, kinder alternatives like ibogaine. But, I digress, just wanted to share some potential positive of scopolamine. http://www.erowid.org/ch...article1.shtml#scop_exp1

The Aboriginees also use Duboisia hopwoodii as an entheogen. ..and they would be the first to say it can kill you if you don't know what you're doing.. ..so 'useful' are the tropanes that the millitary chose them as weapons..remember 'Jacob's Ladder"..see the thread> Chemical Warfare: Secrets Almost Forgotten.... and lastly, unlike DMT or psilocybin, the possible toxic or fatal dose is not that far from the strong effects dose..tropanes may be visionary, but for many they're 'deliriant'.. .

the antidote may be a racetam, iirc. I read some papers which mentioned administration of piracetam and aniracetam following scopolamine dosing. ampakines are interesting compounds. ^^In medical practise anticholinergic poisoning such as that caused by overdoing the scopolamine is treated using a reversible inhibitor of acetylcholinesterase , typically a compound called physostigmine. Interestingly, its structure does contain the tryptamine 'backbone'. I am paranoid of my brain. It thinks all the time, even when I'm asleep. My thoughts assail me. Murderous lechers they are.
