Hello,

So I don't know how many of you have read this story, Kyle Nolan Dies in peru, really sad story. I have heard some sketchy things about the "shaman" prior to this. I have heard stories similar to this involving abuse and other sketchy financial dealings where if there was a place to post it people would have posted their first hand accounts of dealings with shady shamans Razz

I have heard 100x more positive stories than negative ones, and most of these people would love to share their story and recommendation with the rest of the world if given an opportunity. These healers have saved people from some of the worst thigns western life has to offer... cancer, hepatitis, etc... I myself had chronic pancreatitis before being healed in Peru with the ayahuasca and a shit load of plants.

http://www.facebook.com/pages/Ayahuasca-Safety-Council/509088729120641The Ayahuasca safety counsel.... kinda good idea, but he talks about regulating.... I don't think you can regulate whos a shaman and whos not. But you can make the process of selecting your guide/healer/shaman/whatever name you choose, more transparent.

I typed in ayahuasca shaman reviews into google and the first 2 pages didnt bring up anything good. Ayahuasca.com has forums where you can get some info, but it needs to be structures more like a Linked In or Angie list hybrid.

I propose the formation of a group of maybe 5-10 individuals to Lead the Development of a community based effort at harm reduction in the Ayahuasca community through providing a better organized and more accessible place for people to share their stories about experiences with the medicine man as it would have been in the old tribal days. We need a solution for this globalized world we live in where the medicine men are no longer vouched for by the "tribe", for good or bad.

Skills that would be helpful:
Creativity
Imagination
Graphic Design
Web Design
Search Engine Optimization

If a few people want to Volunteer to "Lead" the project with me, I have Server space and money to buy a domain name. I would like to make this a community effort, so well keep the discussion open through these forums if that ok with Traveler so that we can get everyones' input.

I have quite a few ideas, but this post is for recruitment of a few individuals who would like to brainstorm openly about the implementation of this project Smile
EDIT: Help us name the site Smilehttps://www.dmt-nexus.me/forum/default.aspx?g=posts&m=391209&#post391209

I will elaborate a little:

I have been to Peru and worked with the medicine down there and had an amazing experience, thats why i want to start this, especially after the backlash i am seeing to Kevin Nolans death.

In the old days the medicine men lived in a tribal setting with the people they treated. If they were brought patients from afar it was because they heard good things about this medicine man. This was the check/balance for practicing medicine men, if you can't heal people wont come to you, if your mean word will get out, sexually abusive...

Today people travel from very far to receive healing from ayahuasceros, they have a difficult time communicating with people in Peru because of poor telecommunications and a lack of websites. This situation has improved greatly, but a majority of the websites marketing a shaman are affiliated with said shaman. There needs to be an independent, unbiased, well organized arenea for people to review/recommend/critique shamans in the global public venue. The Shamans who choose to treat the world, make the world their tribe, this service will only help to spread the good medicine and help people to avoid the bad medicine.

qualities of site:

Independent - No bias toward one shaman and run as a service to the community

Not-For-Profit - We are not in this to make money, this is a harm reduction effort mix with an effort to make this medicine more available to the more risk adverse. If people can read reviews from an independent site that calls out some "bad" shamans, they will feel way more comfortable about taking the leap and heading to the amazon. The people I met down there did not fit a stereo type at all, except they were less risk adverse than your average fellow, all to different degrees.

Cannibalization of nexus traffic - I don't for see the site taking away any traffic from the nexus. When it comes to extractions, the science of DMT, and all that jazz, the nexus is a great... nexus for us to come together around the topics it already covers. But it doesn't function to do the review process of healers I am proposing.

Simple/clean - True to the style we have loved on the Nexus, this site should be about making the information on these healers easily accessible, not heavily burdened with advertisements and nonsense graphics. If we choose to partner and link to sites it will be in a simple non-cluttering way and strictly for the benefit of the community.

Community Driven - The shamans will not have to set up their "profiles" for themselves, rather the patient stories/reviews will be aggregated by name, geography, center name, lineage, admixtures used* etc, when a "profile" page can be made on a shaman it will to better aggregate these stories/reviews. (I currently know quite a few shamans who would register out of iquitos and pulculpa just for the possibility of attracting new peoples.) I think it would community populate rather quickly.

Develop a set of recommendations for traveler - It would be good to have a before you go guide that was pretty complete. I have already started putting one together for my next trip Smile

This will be an ongoing project and I plan to take the lead and work on it every day until we are up and running.

more to come later.

*edit* - just wanted to add I plan on putting hours of time a week personally into this, I want this to succeed in creating a small community which is why I am not attempting this solo Smile I have experience facilitating group development of all kinds of projects so I am excited to lead this Smile

Graphic design will be a huge help. When we get a name concept going, if you would work with us to create a banner that would be great. Nothing to complex or time consuming, minimalism is my moto Razz

To anyone who wants to help but doesn't know how, make a post expressing so, list your skills, who knows what clever ideas your skills may spawn ^*^; if you don't have anything we need at present moment please hang around and help us brainstorm. Let us know we're on the right track and that you think this is worth putting our time into. I already know it is, but its nice to have your support Pleased

The biggest help right now would be 2 web designers that would want to bounce ideas around with me, I am pretty good at web design, but i have a terrible eye and no style at all. I can fool around with code no problem, but I can't match colors or dimesions to the "pretty factor" at all. So someone with a sense of style would be great Smile

much love all

I don't think I have any skills to offer to this project but want to express my appreciation for the idea. I think it's a wonderful concept and support it. I hope you find people who can help. I'd love to read your "before you go" guide and if it's any help at all - I can see if I can ask some questions from the perspective of someone who has never gone to Peru but would like to in the future to possibly visit a shaman, if any are left open.

Other than that I can offer to translate parts of the page (once it's up) into German or Spanish, if that's any help.

Since my time online is very limited, if you do end up wanting my help as stated above, please send a pm, because otherwise I'll probably lose track of this thread Smile

cheers, and two thumbs up for this project!!

Enoon kind of beat me Smile

I also want to wholeheartedly applaud the idea, and offer my help if it's useful at all. Professional in media industry (although I'm no graphic designer in particular), native spanish speaker, no experience yet with aya but familiar with concepts of harm reduction.

In any case, I hope the project becomes a reality soon. Sounds like a great service and makes absolute sense.

Best of luck!

Ba-Bomb, this was what i was hoping for.

I am going to start a thread for name ideas and then link that thread to this one. Once we get a good brainstorm list will do a poll, then i would love your help registering it Smile Well worry about ftp stuff after a couple people volunteer to work with me on the design Smile

I am also going to create an "[Official] Community Based Visionary Plant Medicine Healer Review and Recommendation Website" thread. Will be the place for general discussion and also the first post will serve as a "table of contents" linking to all the other threads related to the site.

I have some skills in web development (backend and frontend) and have an interest in information architecture and user experience/interaction design.

This sounds like the yelp.com of shamans, something that's sorely needed.
