fun little story on origins and destinations

The Egg (Multiple Languages) Andy Weir
In the province of the mind what one believes to be true, either is true or becomes true within certain limits. These limits are to be found experimentally and experientially. When so found these limits turn out to be further beliefs to be transcended. In the province of the mind there are no limits. However, in the province of the body there are definite limits not to be transcended.-J.C. Lilly

That's so funny, I was seriously considering posting this yesterday. Smile I first read it a pretty long while back, and have given it a lot of thought.

I don't see things as working quite the way he describes, it's way too linear, hopping from one life to the next in sequence. I see it as happening all at once. But it still hints at something that rings true for me. Basically, to me the important part is the idea that we all share the same "soul", and all ARE each other in a very literal way, viewing ourself from different perspectives.

When you really see the world this way, it's very hard to have anything but love and compassion for everyone. I really wish something like this were the standard way to think of ourselves and others, rather than this egoistic idea we're taught of "I'm a unique individual soul that exists seperately from everyone else".
No direction but to follow what you know,
No direction but a faith in her decision,
No direction but to never fight her flow,
No direction but to trust the final destination.

Yea, surely no arrangement of words could really capture true metaphysics, if there is such a thing. I don't follow this story as the "true" structure of reality. Just a fun thought exercise.

And, like Crazyhorse said, this short story is a nice little meditation on the interconnection between all of our "separate" lives and existences. I definitely entertain the idea of an "oversoul" or "worldsoul" that realizes itself through a multitude of separate, yet related, beings.
