Hello!!!! Smile

I'm Anahata and I'm joining Nexus indirectly for a year and directly for some weeks =)

I got into the world of drugs a year ago, doing a project in Anthropology about drugs (history of drugs, prohibition, harm reduction, etc) and I started working as a volunteer in an NGO about harm reduction and analysis of drugs here in Spain. Unfortunately I could be there learning and helping for a short time due to lack of time. Fortunately I did some good contacts that made me grow up, in a really positive way, awaking in me the curiosity of this psychedelic world, the states of conscious and the self growing and the self exploring =)

I love sharing, and learning, that's why I'm here =)
And also because I love the ´´underground research´' as Raph Borges claimed in Amsterdam.

Because for me, science and investigation should be to everybody's reach.

Welcome to the DMT-Nexus.

Your story sounds very interesting, can you tell a bit more about the harm reduction part that you did while working for a NGO?

Kind regards,

The Traveler

Hello Anahata,

Welcome to the Nexus. Thank you for sharing your introduction with us. It sounds like you are on a wonderful life journey of ongoing discovery.

Take a good look around - I think you will like what you see here.

Again, a warm welcome to you.

Of course =)

My task there was not defined because I did a bit of everything:

I started attending users that came with some samples to analize, so I learn a bit about the colorimetrics technique they use to find out which was the substance they had in the sample, using some reactives like marquis, mandelin, etc and some different ones for doing the cocaine test. There was also the GC-MS (Gas chromatography- mass spectromethry)more complex test that I never got to use.

Sometimes I put in the data base the results of the analized samples, to give feedback to the people.

I also was talking to the users, it was the part I liked the most, (anthropological aspect). We make them answer some questions about their use (anonymous).
There was actually a different kind of users, from young people who wanted to go partying to elderly people, like 40 years old couple who liked having MDMA to light up their relation (something that now I can see as a normal thing, but then didn 't expect).
It was really interesting, and they did some observations like...who consume more drugs men or women? In which contexts, etc.

One of the important thing they do is going out and informing people in the parties.

That's all about my experience there!

Laughing Laughing Laughing loved this OMG. Especially since I am over 40 and my husband is a bit over 60 . . . Big grin

Though it's kinda Sad to be called elderly at 40 - I'll I'll have to break it to my bro - he's out of time.

Seriously, sounds like you did some really, really good work and learned a lot from the physical sciences (like chemistry) to the social ones (like anthro). I'm sure I'm speaking for many of us here - we wish our energies could be similar spent serving the worldwide community of psychonauts.

I like how you view the social part as the most interesting for you. Also the way you describe how people differ, spoken from a more objective viewpoint sounds very interesting. It is different as to what many other members here would describe it, I like it.

It makes me wonder about the many different reasons why people take certain substances. It seems poeple's motivations also differ a lot when you look around on the DMT-Nexus.

Kind regards,

The Traveler
