Your mention of using .04gm (40mg) leads me to believe you aren't using a mg accurate scale.
If the best your scale will show is two significant digits to the right of the decimal point, this would only give you a gross approximation to weight, ie. .04 at best would be 36-44mg. However considering +/- tolerances, more like 30-50mg.

You must spend the $20-$25 for a mg accurate scale to have a MUCH more accurate representation of how much you are really smoking.........
