Hello dear nexus members,

Since a long time ago, I've been pondering an experience I've had a long time ago. I've mentioned it in another post, but I felt like it was worth discussing in a separate topic anyway. Let me quote the piece I've written in my introduction topic:

That's a good one, loss of reality! I once experienced that... As a child I experienced an illness, during which I fell into limbo if you will. This happened during a normal nights sleep, but it felt like eternity. Instead of normally falling asleep, maybe even dreaming, and afterwards just waking up, I was compressed if you will to a pure mathematical point, but dimensionless, timeless, just gone. Pure consciousness, no body, nowhere, no time, no nothing. Sensory input was a blur of random nothingness, a pressure if you will... In this pressure I eventually felt/heard/saw/whatever like I was in a sea of similar 'points of being', each one randomly popping up and disappearing again, exerting this pressure under which I was. Once again, in my experience this night lasted forever.. Forever in limbo. I could try to explain and put into words what it felt like into greater detail, but it wouldn't be possible.

When I suddenly woke up, like a rubber band I snapped back into my body.

[...]

It was a quite heavy experience, and I've been pondering the meaning of this since then. The description might be a bit vague, but I can't add any more details: they just can't be put into words...

Is there anyone else who's experienced something similar? I don't care whether on some (hallucinogenic) substance, or in a similar situation, just wondering if anyone recognizes this description.

Thanks in advance for any input anyone might have to offer... Rolling eyes
Never argue with idiots, they drag you down to their level and beat you with experience

Good quality Syrian rue (Peganum harmala) for an incredible price!

When I was a young lad way back when, I had a couple of experiences I can only describe as being caught in a "tractor beam" while I was laying in bed. It seemed to last a long time as well.

The strange thing is my brother recalled having similar experiences years later when we were adults. Recollecting the experience was always difficult. It reminds me of a dream or the next day after entering hyperspace.

The word "limbo" is a good way to put what I experienced. I haven't thought about it in years. Sorry, I wish I had some input for you.
I am completely convinced that there is a wealth of information built into us, with miles of intuitive knowledge tucked away in the genetic material of every one of our cells. Something akin to a library containing uncountable reference volumes, but without any obvious route of entry. And, without some means of access, there is no way to even begin to guess at the extent and quality of what is there. The psychedelic drugs allow exploration of this interior world, and insights into its nature. - Shulgin

I also had similar things when I was adolescent, maybe 10-12 years old. I would almost go into a trance, not awake not asleep and I would feel something right in the middle of my head, right behind the bridge of my nose. I'm assuming the location of the pituitary gland. My head would almost feel like a void but completely full. If that even makes sense

That sounds very similar to what I experienced one time I had too many stimulant pills (half by accident.. really bad idea.. never again..), it must have been amphetamine psychosis. I was in my bed but then all memory of body and time were lost, in a limbo state, random memories would come through and it was as if I lived them on the windowsill, absolutely no concept of time or normal consciousness - very hard to properly describe - I can relate to your comment about 'points of being'. When I finally came to it was pretty startling, I was really confused and had no idea how long I had been like that (seemed like forever) or what had happened in between.

Could it have been recurrent isolated sleep paralysis (RISP)?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sleep_paralysis

I used to have wild hallucinogenic episodes when I was very small with illnesses (usually involving Wolves and lots of fear, at the time of sleep) but nothing compared to your limbo state...
