Ok so for the last couple days I have been searching and reading and learning and I have hit a wall. I've googled every combination of words I can think of, also searched the nexus extensively. I cannot find anything close to an MSDS sheet for Mrs. Wages Pickling Lime. NOW, before you go on about what I should do hear me out. I need an answer to this question or my brains gonna explode. (Mrs. Wages is not an option for me) Are they the same? Hi-Yield Horticultural Hydrated Lime Mrs. Wages Pickling Lime Now HERE is the MSDS for the Hi-Yield brand. And if you read HERE, this is as close as I can find to an MSDS sheet for food grade lime. I cannot find an MSDS for mrs. wages, maybe thats all I need. Anyone link me to it? Here are two threads with which this question has been asked with no answer... ONE and TWOThe Hi-Yield contains: Calcium Hydroxide 100% (this is what we want) Calcium Oxide 71.32% (same as above without water) Silicon Dioxide 1% (can this come over during the pull? I dont think it does) Carbon Dioxide 1.04% Trace Elements 2.48% (???) My assumption is that this has basically the same composition as pickling lime and is safe to use. This stuff is way more abundant than mrs wages, and I think this would be helpful to know. "Energy flows where attention goes" [Please review the forum Wiki and FAQ before posting questions]

I can't comment on the ingredients of that particular brand, but my research has told me that Pickling Lime, Hydrated Lime, and Slaked Lime are all the same. If you can't get to a Walmart then Home Depot/hardware shops, farm/aquarium shops, large/small grocery stores, and other similar stores seem to be your best bet. My uneducated guess is that the Trace Elements could possibly be an issue, but you can't know until you try as they are unidentified. A look at Wikipedia: Silicon Dioxide > Chemistry makes me think it wouldn't cause any problems, but again I'm no chemist. Edit: I've also been unable to locate the MSDS for Mrs. Wages Pickling Lime. Most of my google searches led to other forums searching for the MSDS as well. Those that reported finding the MSDS linked here [ http://www.fishandreptil...=Mrs_Wages_Pickling_Lime ] which has been taken offline. The inner soul is full of joy. Hey there anrchy, I found mrs. wage at wall mart... Although I failed miserably at that tek and ended up having to go buy lye anyways.. And why do you look at the speck in your brother's eye, but do not percieve the plank in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, "brother let me remove the speck from your eye", when you yourself do not see the plank that is in your own eye?-Yeshua ben Yoseph

I find it rather interesting that so many people have been unable to find an MSDS as well. I'm guessing it doesnt have an MSDS because its considered food grade. I've gone to 2 walmarts, 2 bimarts, and 2 fred meyer's. As well as various grocery stores. My only option at the moment is lime. As any 100% Lye has been removed from all store shelves. I'm positive there's got to be some place that carries Lye still in some form but I am having a hard enough time finding mrs wages. Ok but food grade lime contains: Food Grade Calcium Hydroxide Specifications Assay Ca(OH)2 95 100.5% Magnesium and Alkali Salts Less than 4.8% Fluoride Less than 50 ppm Lead Less than 10 ppm Arsenic Less than 3 ppm Acid Insoluble Substances Less than 0.5% Heavy Metals Less than 30 ppm I think what it is, they dont add anything but the processing of lime brings with it impurities. Thats why table salt is washed. although Im only assuming this for lime. I also dont really want to order any of the supplies online. MOSTLY would like to find a local supply just in case lime follows the same road as Lye. "Energy flows where attention goes" [Please review the forum Wiki and FAQ before posting questions]

My local Walmart only carries Mrs. Wages as a seasonal item. I believe you're in the US so I'd try looking for a local Ace Hardware they usually have it available. The inner soul is full of joy. Ya Ace no go as well. Like i said, I have searched all the stores that people have claimed to sell mrs wages. if it is here it will probably be in a specialty store. Which I havent found one that carries it yet. My Main focus though would be to track down if this other brand of hydrated lime would work. I know this would help some people out other than me, as this same issue isnt isolated to only me, not finding mrs wages but finding hi-yield brand. Oh and if im not mistaken, this is the season to pickle isnt it? Or about to be. Fall I also read that walmart carries mrs wages april - november. But, ya know. SWIM used hydrated lime from the Asian food market and was pleased with the results. It dries quickly if you are concerned about exact weight. Also look in Mexican markets if possible as lime is used to make tortillas, etc. Images of broken light, Which dance before me like a million eyes, They call me on and on...

Also look in Mexican markets if possible as lime is used to make tortillas, etc. hmm, you know thats one place that I havent tried. There's a HUGE asian grocery store/mall not far from my house. I love that place for their seafood. You know what section it was in? As I noticed they organize a little different than say, albertsons. Tortilla's.... your a genius. But seriously, to stay on topic... if anyone can figure out the impurities in mrs wages that would help out alot. No, he found it through a near telepathic communication with a man whose English was even worse than his Chinese. I believe it is used for making pickles of various sorts. Also used when chewing Betel nut, so maybe available from an Indian or Pakistani market? Images of broken light, Which dance before me like a million eyes, They call me on and on...

Small ethnic shops (euro/mid-east/asian/etc) are always great for the hard to find items. As spinCycle said, the small ethnic food shops are probably a great bet for finding Lime.Same goes for the little hardware shops if you have any local ones. The inner soul is full of joy. I'll try a couple more places, but this feed store is extremely close to my house, and like i said I really want to clear up whether or not this other brand of lime can be used. Thanks for all the replies, if anyone is interested in helping me find out if this other brand is within specs to be used in an extraction, please do. Thanks guys "Energy flows where attention goes" [Please review the forum Wiki and FAQ before posting questions]

Wally World is a pretty huge place, might be easy to overlook something like that. What section were you looking in? It should be with the canning jars and such. No direction but to follow what you know, No direction but a faith in her decision, No direction but to never fight her flow, No direction but to trust the final destination.

You know whats funny, one of them didnt even carry mason jars. All the places I have looked, I looked in any area that could be considered a good area for canning. If they had canning stuff they didnt have mrs wages. I literally spent 4 hours yesterday looking through stores. Good think my car gets amazing gas mileage! I know you have probably given up on wal-mart but I just wanted to mention I found it in the kitchen section by the blenders and stuff. it was 4$ And why do you look at the speck in your brother's eye, but do not percieve the plank in your own eye? I find Mrs Wade's pickling lime in the section with stacks of mason jars at WalMart. Next to pickle flavoring packs and such... just seek out the mason jar aisle.
