Just before 10 p.m. on June 12, Budge and Stai were hanging out at Budge's East Grand Forks home when they mixed a white power -- 2C-I -- with melted chocolate and ate the drug-laced candy. They then went to a McDonald's. An hour later, Stai began "freaking out" and acting as if he were "possessed," foaming at the mouth, hyperventilating, and smashing his head against the ground. Budge and other buddy laid Stai down in a bed and placed a wet towel on his head to cool him down. By 1:30 in the morning, Stai was no longer breathing.
Yesterday, Budge was charged with third-degree murder, second-degree manslaughter, selling a controlled substance to a juvenile, and selling a controlled substance. The murder charge alone carries a maximum penalty of 25 years.
Budge told police he had meant to buy marijuana when he went to his dealer a couple weeks ago, but ended up paying $100 for a baggie of a white powder he believed contained an extract of hallucinogenic mushrooms.
Police in the Red River Valley have been warning area residents about a bad batch of 2C-I linked to the deaths of Stai and Christian Bjerk, 18, who was found dead on a Grand Forks sidewalk on June 11 from an overdose similar to Stai's.
Lieutenant Rod Hajicek of the East Grand Forks PD said the tainted batch "seems to be isolated to the Grand Forks-East Grand Forks area right now, but anytime we have two individuals dead within a couple days of each other, that certainly gets our attention." Make of it what you will. I would like to see the toxicology report.

Wow. There's no telling how much 2C-I they took if he really thought it was psilocybin extract. I'm glad I don't take synthetics with other people, lol. I remember some years back I read about a young man who ovredosed on blue mystic. His friends said he was banging his head against the ground and the dash of the car acting possessed just before he died as well. I wonder if this kind of freak out is a usual symptom of phynethlamine overdose? And why do you look at the speck in your brother's eye, but do not percieve the plank in your own eye? what a load of BS..they are charging this kid with murder? Why would this ever qualify as murder? It is sad yes but to ruin this other kids life in the process? Long live the unwoke.

Recently in my area a similar incident happened. Except instead of the person's friend being responsible and taking them to a place where they may recover, they left them at the McDonalds. It's just disgusting.

It's extremely sad, I agree, more peoples lives destroyed. The only case I could see is if it was possible to show that the dealer was knowingly substituting RC's. Which is highly irresponsible and dangerous. Thats a pretty hard/near impossible thing to prove that he knew he was selling RC's as something else. I always worry when taking high doses of LSD that potentially I have an RC in hand and not LSD. I think this is why its usually best to take the conservative approach with any drug you are unsure of, that is take the dosage that if it was the most potent RC would still be non-lethal. Unfortunately with the way our drug education works in the USA at least we arm kids with "All Drugs Ruin Lives/Kill", which all drugs (even Vitamins) can kill, there are dangers, but without the proper information its hard for people to make reasonable choices. Worse yet, the mass populous usually sees the above as more reason to "ban" these substances, not educate and ensure there is some amount of regulation. Not to even get into the moral aspect of it, there is no evidence in history to suggest its even possible to control such substances, however there is a LOT of evidence of the harm that trying causes.
