Thanks, I looked through the ayahuasca related threads, but did not check the CEL thread. Maybe the mods can move or delete this thread, then? "...I didn't know that Cheshire cats always grinned; in fact, I didn't know that cats could grin..." - Alice's Adventures in Wonderland

Im wondering if a 5 meo dmt containing admixture was what caused his death? Ive been reading about diplopterys cabrerana and ive been reading about whether or not it contains 5 meo dmt. Some people think it does and some don't.
I wonder if this plant was used and maybe it had a high 5 meo dmt containing profile. As ive read, 5 meo dmt and maoi's can be very dangerous! Just a thought.

DeMenTed wrote:Im wondering if a 5 meo dmt containing admixture was what caused his death That's unlikely. More probable is he drank excessive amounts of Toe containing Ayahuasca,( he was left with a bottle of Aya!!) Regular Aya is pretty much non toxic. Other than that who knows if he took a pill or something?? Time will tell. "Eat your vegetables and do as you're told, or you won't be going to the funfair!"

..it seems to me that carelessly used 'Ayahuasca' and dodgy or fake 'Shamans' are giving 'DMT' a bad name through reckless and irresponsible actions.. there have been a couple of ayahuasca deaths in the UK (under 'Euro-Shamans' and one unreported death in australia (in which an anglo-australian under 30 who'd maybe drank 20 times in south america was meant to be the 'shaman'..died in his own circle..) makes me very sad..people should take seriously the warnings of the dangers of ayahusaca and shamanism that the few old genuine curanderos give.. .

Having a shaman to hand ain't all that glamorous as it turns out. I hear that. I also considered doing it, just to have an 'authentic' experience. Not gonna happen. If I'm taking a drug like this it will be from the safely of my own home were I'm a phone call away from help if things go seriously awry. Besides that after 25 years of using these substances I've learned a lot about how much I can handle and what I consider to be safe for myself. Why would I throw all that experience out the window and subject myself to a dose made by someone who has never met me? I love aya. I don't need a shaman for it. If your religion, faith, devotion, or self proclaimed spirituality is not directly leading to an increase in kindness, empathy, compassion and tolerance for others then you have been misled.

I'll wait patiently for the autopsy results to surface.
In the meantime, business as usual.

A few questions run through my mind.
1) Was it a normal brew? 2) Did this kid divulge all the medications he was one? Did he fast. 3) Is it possible that some people with very low thresholds to aya can actually be poisoned from it?
Jus tragic.
BTW I have never felt that I would be safe in the jungle with a shaman than at home with my wife.
this is my thoughts too

1. we dont know. 2. his mother said he was on an ayahuasca type diet, nothing else is known as of yet. 3. depends, regular aya is pretty safe when used in the correct manner, it's even given to some children in the Jungle in small doses. But to give someone a large dose of aya for their first time containing high doses of Toe has a possibility of being fatal. christian wrote:soulfood wrote:What's the brief evaluation Christian? Hot off the press Public Statement to the Ayahuasca CommunityQuote:09/28/12 To the global ayahuasca community: We are a diverse group of people from around the world, woven together by a deep connection with the plant medicine ayahuasca, and we offer our most heartfelt condolences for the Nolan family on the tragic loss of their son, Kyle. http://newsfeed.time.com...-drug-ayahuasca-in-peru/We, the undersigned, people who had direct experience with Shimbre, or have concern over what has transpired, believe Kyle was not given this medicine in a safe or supportive traditional environment. Ayahuasca powerfully impacts both the body and spirit, and while a purgative, is non-toxic. It must be facilitated in a ceremony by a person with extensive experience in all aspects of plant medicine, one who has studied for many years to understand the cultural traditions associated with ayahuasca as well as the myriad physical and psychological effects this plant teacher will have on the seeker. The facilitator, whether shaman, ayahuasquero or curandero, gringo or indigenous, should closely monitor and tends to the seekersโ spiritual, physical and emotional needs throughout the ceremony. The responsibility does not end there. The experience can be powerful, and at times disturbing, requiring support from the practitioner to help the seeker integrate the experience post-ceremony. During the Shimbre โincidentโ we believe this sacred medicine was administered by an irresponsible practitioner who did not follow the ancient traditional practice of staying with the seeker or student to insure physical and spiritual safety. Instead, in an affront to traditional practice, he sent his charges off alone into the jungle to fend for themselves following a superficial โceremonyโ. After the very first Shimbre (then called Chimbre) retreat in April, 2010, Rob Velez, the founder and funder of Shimbre was counseled both verbally and in writing by a number of concerned individuals that โMaestro Mancolutoโsโ practices were not in keeping with the sacred traditionsโand were in fact, very dangerous. In addition, Velez was warned the ayahuasca and huachuma (San Pedro) served by Mancoluto contained potentially dangerous admixtures of other plants. This counsel was not received in the spirit of deep concern and caring from which it was offered. Instead, it was regarded as an unfounded personal attack on Mancoluto and Velezโs business. Friendships and business relationships were destroyed as a result of these warnings. Ayahuasca is legal in Peru as are retreat centers. A โbad sceneโ, operated ineptly by unqualified people, is not a crime. Still, many people who were concerned about the lack of duty of care and quality of ceremonies at Shimbre made their concerns known in the only medium left open to them at that timeโthe ayahuasca community. This same global community is now striving to learn from this tragedy, and facilitate a โCode of Ethicsโ to self-regulate the business of shamanism as it spreads in the West, and as ayahuasca is administered in Peru. We believe that this is an issue that goes beyond any one lodge or practitioner, and represents a turning point in the western shamanic re-integration. It is not something easily legislated against or decided for others. The questions it raises for the ayahuasca community in Peru and in the West, the tug of war between spirit and consumerism, remains. What do we do, if anything? We move forward. We build some type of foundation that can be used by our global community to have more dialogue, more informed awareness, and more solidarity and cohesion. Thus we encourage all interested parties to engage in discussion on the best ways to move forward, for the greatest good of all. Quote:With the amount of people who take psych meds so ridiculously high... I see a serious recipe for disaster that few talk about actually, i just came back from an ayahuasca ceremony, where a girl almost died in my arms. she was taking Prozac, and went into a dangerous Serotonin syndrome. she went numb, and couldn't control her muscles, couldn't move her legs at all, one guy brought her to the fire where i was sitting as she was asking "please help me, i cannot breath!" as people around the fire were lugging at her, "oh common , you are o.k its only your fears..."i went to her,and i realized that she was extremely sick, paralyzed pale and shivering, she said she " please help me to breath i'm fainting,i brought all my blankets and sleeping bag,to cover her,and gave her some reiki, together with some other people who came around and tried to calm her down. after half an hour she started feeling better, and finely was able to fill her lungs with air again. slowly slowly she could seat down, and came back to her senses. i guess it was a real miracle that she didn't die, as she was taking Prozac together with 2 cups of aya. she didn't even realize how dangerous it was. `I can't explain MYSELF, I'm afraid, sir' said Alice, `because I'm not myself, you see.'
