So, this is the project thread to produce a new frontpage graphic for the nexus. In this thread the Traveler confirmed that the old one has to go, and gave his permission for this project. After this there will also be a project for the Fun-section graphic, so if you happen to miss out on this one you can get on that one later. (edit: this is now cancelled as there won't be a Fun-section anymore, sorry.)

The project
Allright so, here's how this is gonna go. There's 8 links, and each link needs an artwork. If you're an artist you can go through the links and their themes below, and if you feel like some of the themes are your specialty, then you can sign up for that link by posting in this thread or PM'ing me. Each link will have 1 artist assigned to it. Then that artist will begin working on his/her artwork, and submit it when it's ready.

This thread can be used to communicate and share sketches, ideas, etc. throughout the project.

The links
(In brackets are the themes that the artwork should include, but they are only examples to give the right direction. But the artwork must be hyperspatial while having a relation to the direction of these themes.)

Forum (communication, telepathy, entities, groups, intergalactic communities)
Assigned to: Orion | Status: Finished

Wisdom (knowledge, library, teachings, scholars, buddha, ancient masters)
Assigned to: Tokapelli | Status: In progress

About (introspection, ego, self-enquiry, existence)
Assigned to: Uncle Knucles | Status: Finished

FAQ (symbols, question marks, noob entities, constants, laws of nature)
Assigned to: cyb | Status: Finished

Links (beacons, transmitters, light bridges, connectivity, web of galaxy clusters)
Assigned to: MelCat | Status: Finished

Files (information, consciousness datapackets, data particles, brain download)
Assigned to: Nils | Status: Finished

Fun (hyperspace party, alien baby toys, fireworks, circus)
Assigned to: Guyomech | Status: Finished

Mystery (enigmas, riddles, jesters, rabbit hole, the unknown)
Assigned to: stalepixel | Status: Finished

Ratio and level of detail
The ratio of the artwork needs to be a basic horizontal 4:3. You do NOT need to make it into a link yourself, you just need to make a normal artwork with the focus in the center. I have attached 3 rough example illustrations on what the form of the final graphic MIGHT look like, but you do not need to worry about any of that. Not even the text in the link or the orientation of the link. Just create a normal 4:3 artwork.

What you do need worry about though, is the level of detail. If you go here to the current frontpage, you can see the approximate size of what the graphic is gonna be, and you can see that each of the links are about 200x200 pixels. So keeping that in mind , you don't wanna spend days making incredibly tiny and intricate patterns, because they'll probably disappear when the artwork is digitalized and resized. But you should still make it fairly intricate because as you can see, alot of detail can still fit into a 200x200px image.

Update! There is actually a way to redirect the page to a custom-made size depending on the user resolution, so you can be a bit more intricate. The maximum size of the graphic will likely be something HD-like, so each link will approximately be more like 400x300px on most peoples monitors.

Artist requirements
Do not sign up for this just so you can "leave a mark" on the nexus frontpage. You need to have experience in art, and you need to have experience in hyperspace. The point of this is to produce a very high quality hyperspatial graphic. If you're confident that you can do that, then please do sign up.

There's no requirements about the medium you use or the style you have, altho the common mediums like drawing/painting or digital stuff, are preferred. And keep in mind that the art will have to be comfortably intricate and look hyperspatial, whatever that means to you. Also, it has to be clear that the direction of the given themes is used, so hold back on the abstractness. And all the material has to be made by you.

After submitting it, your artwork might be heavily adjusted or modified, so you must submit your artwork as open-source.

Deadline
There won't really be a deadline, but just so that this doesn't take forever let's say that this should be finished in about a month. I know alot of you are busy and have other things to do, so I think a month sounds like a reasonable limit. But even that can be flexible.

(might have forgotten some things but I'll keep updating this thread as time goes on.. suggestions and feedback are also welcome)

Hot damn daedaloops, you're on it. I'm actually headed out of town until next week, but I'll be playing with some sketches in the mean time. Looking forward to this.

I'm definitely not an artist, but I have a strong appreciation for art. I'm extremely excited for the ideas that will come out of all of you artistic geniuses. I love what you have started already, Daedloops!

Seeing all of the banners change at the top of the site puts a smile on my face every time. I hope there are enough ideas where I may get to see a different frontpage graphic every time I log in Smile I hope that doesn't sound greedy.

Good luck guys! Peace and Love and Much creative vibes to you all Big grin

well i would like to contribute to this but I just dont know if id have the time, (tryin to bust out some album art currently for a buddy here makin some aweomse music) ill follow it though and keep an eye on the progression maybe i can help somehow, i would be honored to contribute.

I have some thoughts though. I think what makes the original homepage graphic so cool is that its a collaboration of many differnet peieces of art, but they are all done by the same artist in the same medium. This gives the collaborative peice, or the big picture, unity.

Now one thing im not quite understanding, are you plannign on having all of the different peices showing at the same time as one larger image (like the current graphic?)
Or are you plannign on only showing your design unitl the user hovers the mouse over a link?

Either way would be cool you have some pretty cool desings up there. If it is going to be like the original though, with all peices being visible at the same time coiming together to create one larger image, then I think limiting it to one medium might help give it some unity. Maybe the artists involved could decide together which medium would work best for everybody?

Anyway just some ideas. Hate to see the original go but as Rob Nesta said, when one door closes, another one opens.

*Edit, one more question comes to mind. When you say the artist must be experienced with hyperspace, does the artits method of transport matter?

Hehe that's not really the point of this to make many graphics, but just one very good one. The rotation works well with the banners but on a frontpage that idea isnt very functional. And thanks!

That hasn't been decided yet. It all depends on how everything goes and what kind of art is produced. Whatever will look the best. But most likely in the same way as the current one, so there won't be any text until the mouse is over it.

Thanks I'll have to think about that a bit more.. But atleast the most common like painting and digital work is allowed. I have a pretty clear vision how to unify them even if they might have a bit different styles..

Well aslong as there was DMT involved I guess.. After all this is the dmt-nexus.

I put you on Wisdom since you didn't specify more, but you can still change to another one later, as long as its free.

This is an awesome idea and I love the stuff you've come up with so far Daedaloops. Thanks for taking point on this, you rock brother!

Go ahead and sign me up for Links. I've got a couple of ideas floating around upstairs that I hope I can get onto the screen properly.

Oh yeh also wanted to say that I'd really like you to get on board too even tho you're busy with your album art, but like I mentioned the deadline is flexible so there's no pressure.. And there's only 3 links left so you should pick one while you can.

alright you talked me into it lol. thanks man.

I thought Art already signed up for wisdom? did he change to about? If he did I think wisdom could be a pretty good fit for me. I actually already have a couple detailed skectches that would work awesome for this too, just need to make a few adjustments and get it on some canvas.

So if that one is still available I think I could contribute somethign pretty cool for it. Ill try to post some pics of the sketch im talkin about this weekend.
