I think the front page pic is BAD ASS! I really dig the style, and im not exageratting the first time ever coming to this site I probably sat and looked at that page (and the art that it is compiled from) for at least a half hour. I like how it all fits together and has a good composition as a single image, and they have it cleverly split up into the different links. I could see what your sayin about the graffiti style letters, but I dont think it looks "gangster" or anything like that. To me it looks fun.

I like the image, but don't really care for the graffiti style lettering. Graffiti like that just reminds me of hard/street drugs and the crime associated with it.

I absolutely love the frontpage graphic, but as I understand it's basically just some of the art in the images-section put together by the original admin? So if for some reason the majority wouldn't mind it changed then heres a random idea: There could be like a collab project with 5 nexian artists and each would make an artpiece for one of the links, in the same vein as the current one, and then it would be put together somehow neatly.. Or just have a contest, but I like the collab idea more cos then there would be different nexian visions combined into one cool frontpage graphic.

i really love the front graphic. its so unique and ridiculous- and so is hyperspace.. but it would be cool to see a collaboration of nexian psychedelians try and top it

I also like the frontpage graphic and never made those graffiti connections, but I do love novelty so I wholeheartedly support switching it up and making something even more awesome

The front page is a horrendous monstrosity of epic proportions. It sucks ass big time. I'd kill a man to have it changed and profanities escape from my mouth if I accidentally get to see it.

I remember when I first came to the nexus, the front page had established, for me, an assumption of the people I expected to find here. I was ultra shocked to have gone into chat and read the forums to find that members were situated at completely the other end of the spectrum.

I like the front page and I enjoy how that blue orb fuzzes up but I don't think it represents the Nexus completely. Plus those blue mushrooms in the centre look more like oxygen-starved male genitalia than mushrooms.

Ahem.

Probably quite important to take first impressions into consideration and change is good, so I believe.

well to be fair I already knew the nexus was going to be awesome as I was reffered here by a buddy that told me great things about it. So I guess because I already had a first impression of the site, I cant really comment on the kind of first impression the art might give to people that dont really know what kind of place this is yet.

And yes your right I guess graffiti is not really gangster. Gangsters ususally like to spray paint on walls but most of the time from what I see they are hardly graffiti artists. Looks more like chicken scratch. So just because some "gangsters" do graffiti (and theyre not all bad at it either) doesnt mean that graffiti is gangster. Real graffiti artists do some pretty amazing work, and I like what it stands for as well. Cover the gray walls with art instead of corporate advertisements, its a statement.

Looks like alot of people would stand behind change though and seeing new art never hurt anybody.

Its certainly an idea, the work will still need to be done in order to program the script controls (I have no idea what this means), to get you to the forum or the archives etc.

I was also badly turned off by the main page theme the first time I visited the nexus, but this tasteless thing was totally overshadowed by the infamous "Book of Wisdom" link and contents therein. Back then the Book of Wisdom was not directing you to the wiki page but to an actual book written by some guy which contained quite some REALLY absurd notions and ideas, not to mention the shady references against homosexuality. Thankfully, with the persistence and patience of Ohayoco, this book was removed and replaced with the wiki.

Such barriers of tastelessness could be a metaphor for the actual difficulties met for those seeking wisdom, like climbing a mountain to go talk to a hermit, but meh. Let's see what other suggestions we have for artwork. Things need to change once in a while, the nexus is Entheogenic University, not high-school toilets.

Infundibulum: Language! if you are so turned of by it, why are you even using that first page? Its like watching youtube videos one hate, there is no point watching or even complaining.

It is the first page every (new) visitor encounters, we ought to do a bit better than that. We are a strong front on entheogens' sensible use, we're slowly gaining more and more respect from a wider audience, attract laymen and journalists and we really cannot have something that looks like puke on a saturday night for our front page. Believe it or not every day we're becoming less and less underground. And generally, you don't only need to be good, you have to look good too.

We are clearly getting much more popular, even in the year I've been here its got quite a bit busier. I like the PIC but maybe your right and its not the best image to greet people if we wish to put across an entheogenic university vibe.

What kind of style would you suggest?

Puke on a saturday night? Thats pretty harsh and ill even say rediculous and disrespectful. You do realize thats somebody's art right? Somebody literally poured their heart and soul into that art. Spending countless hours trying to express the inexpressible, attempting to put a hyperdimensional intangible feeling onto a peice of paper, trying to build a bridge to the island that is the artists mind. I mean if you are going to give some constructive critisism regarding the artist's talent, or give your opinion of the message that the art conveys im all for that. But the way you said that basically just made you sound ignorrant, rude and disrespectful, and thats not what the nexus is about is it?

Honestly, I, for one, could live without people who don't want to visit the forums because they don't like the background image on the main page*.
