I've heard about the Great Pacific Garbage Patch before, but it never fully set in. At least not until I watched this video. I'm sure there are better documentaries about it, but watching this just gave me the chills, I seriously almost cried.

I know there is a lot going on in the world and maybe trash in the ocean is one of the smallest problems, but it really hit home for me and I really truly hope we can fix what we are doing to this planet before mother nature decides to fix it herself by destroying us.

We are blessed to be a part of this world and everything about our modern lifestyle is toxic to the ecosystems around us, everything is connected and this type of destructive living is only leading to the poisoning of ourselves.

It's times like these when I wish all the 2012 stuff was actually true and there would be a mass awakening of consciousness on the planet and we could all slap ourselves on the head and say "damn what were we thinking?" For now all I can do is try to be the change and keep my fingers crossed, but it's hard knowing how deep we've dug ourselves.

Like I said, it's probably not the best information on it but it really put it in perspective for me.

we are acting like a virus, like a cancer to the planet. Isnt cancer just a part of the body that takes more than it needs? Isnt that exactly what were doing to the planet? From the top of Harney Peak on a full moon I see a massive, glowing, pulsating tumor of a city on the beautiful face of our mother and it makes me sick. I guess all we can do to change it, is to do our work secretly, silently and sacredly as they say. Eventually the flow of the energy of god will build up behind us like a violent river and force us to let go and just go with the flow of nature instead of resisting and fighting it.

We are hardly a threat to the planet. As other organisms and species become extinct, so will humans, and when the Earth finally gets rid of us, it will begin to heal itself and thrive further. However, I agree, we are truly killing ourselves.

β€œThe most compelling insight of that day was that this awesome recall had been brought about by a fraction of a gram of a white solid, but that in no way whatsoever could it be argued that these memories had been contained within the white solid. Everything I had recognized came from the depths of my memory and my psyche. I understood that our entire universe is contained in the mind and the spirit. We may choose not to find access to it, we may even deny its existence, but it is indeed there inside us, and there are chemicals that can catalyze its availability.”

I agree we are not a threat to the Earth itself, but by the planet I am widely referring to living organisms on the Earth that are being affected by our path through materialism. And we can plainly see certain organisms dying out due to our carelessness.

I don't fully agree with Carlin in that video; although it is true that we mainly care about the environment because we want to preserve our own species, I'm not trying to be self righteous and save this or that. In the end I want to save myself, my family and friends and our future generations. I would love to leave the world beautiful and clean teeming with biodiversity for my children's children to marvel at.

I don't agree that it is the only reason though. I am able to respect and value all creatures and plants because I recognize the crucial part they play in my own life, which surely deserves my care and attention. I could also love them because they seem to have a consciousness not dissimilar to mine, and I believe the golden rule has some weight to it.

The bottom line is, we need the Earth and all of it's ecosystems to work in sync and it is sad that so many are blind to that.

Regarding us not being a real threat...
I hope you are right...

I have heard we have already killed the planet and it is now slowly dying.

I hope this is not true.

I guess your right, we couldnt completely destroy the planet. We could very easily make it impossible for most species that call it home to survive here though. I mean, if we really wanted to we could do it in under an hour, just detonate all the nukes we got stashed.

I did a little more research into this trash pile. They say its 3 miles deep, and 2xs the size of texas. I for one am disgusted by this, and dumfounded that this is the first time ive ever heard of this. We truly are a disgusting species. (beautiful too though i guess its a paradox like anything else lol)

Yes it is MASSIVE, it isn't exactly an island of trash floating out in the water though like most imagine when they hear of a garbage patch the twice the size of Texas, it is mainly pieces of plastic saturating the water throughout an area that large. It ranges from large objects to tiny particles that even small fish swallow up. Not to mention what is going on at a molecular level as it breaks down in the sea water.

The kicker is we haven't even TRIED to start cleaning this up, it is in international waters so no one wants to take responsibility for it. Even if we did try to clean it up the scary thing is that the pieces are so small I can't imagine a way to get them out beside a net with tiny holes but then you would be grabbing up all kinds of sea life with it and it would take ages, and all the microscopic particles? Sigh.

We need to build FLEETS of filtration ships. Yes some sea life would unfortunately parish, but we could atleast start doing something.

I can't imagine it would be too difficult to build ships that run on solar power and filter out as much as it can. We could just start building tons of em and leave them out there to filter, charge, filter ect. Then we can unload them into tankers and bring the trash back with us. I would think that the entire world should be pressed by its people to take part in the clean up. This is outrageous and needs action.

Is there anything us nexians could do to try and get some kind of action going on this?
