There seems to be no sure way to become an official non seedling and all i can think of is to post more and more but i run into a problem. the vast majority of discussions on which i could provide extensive input are discussions i am unable to post in. so how can i show that i am worthy of the go-ahead when i can only provide limited input on an active discussion or start a new duplicate discussion?

Any veterans have some info as to how i can get promoted?

velcome to the nexus

you've been here a day-- give it a bit more time brother. just be yourself and make good posts/threads. you can also stop by the chat more often so people get to know you faster

Hiya sphits,

Feel free to start a new thread in the Welcome Area using the original thread title with something added to the beginning. For example, if there's a thread you cannot respond to with the title "A Really Cool Thread" then start a new one named:

[Welcome Area] A Really Cool Thread

If the MODS feel it adds to the discussion then it will eventually be merged. If you continually add good comments to the discussion then I'm sure you will be promoted.

Also, you might consider improving the grammar and spelling in your posts. I'm terrible at both, but taking a few extra moments to improve and edit your posts will go a long way in speeding up your promotion.

I believe you may somewhat accelerate the process by posting a mini-essay about yourself. There's a section for that -look it up.

Then again, I think the Open Discussions sub-forum is among the most active. Sure you can contribute something in one of the many existing threads. If not, as someone said above, just open your own.

Patience really can't be overestimated. If you feel like you can't contribute to the current discussions, that may be a sign you have a lot of basic reading to do Wink
That's how I feel, I've had a membership for almost a year and I've barely made any posts simply because I have so little experience with this topic, all I can do is read. And I actually rather liked that little sprout icon, I kinda miss it....

Tango makes an important point- Open Discussion is in fact one of the most active. Even the most senior members browse and post in Open, and many of the more compelling topics pop up here.

The beginner period may seem limiting but its how we keep our membership high quality. I came on as a stranger here, with no one to vouch for me, and was promoted in 2-3 weeks based on the attitude and tone of my posts. I'll admit I felt a little left out before that, but having been here for a while now I understand how necessary it is.

At any rate; welcome, and don't let this little thing stand in your way! Let's hear more about you!
