what the title says?????????????why is it offline?

They either have their server down due to technical problems, or (inspired by the "DDoS protection by ..." bit in the first redirection page I got) they are suffering some DDoS attack.

That is quite sad, last year we had the same problems. I hope, just like us, that they overcome this attack.

Yeah! I ran into that last night when I was trying to pick up some info off the shroomery. It is sad, it's one of the most helpful websites there is...

I remember your problems last year, we had a few member over at the shroomery from here, snozz, or something similar ended up creating(or spreading) a very nice PDF during that time.

Anyways, it is a DDoS attack.

Just trying to get the word out to those wondering, nothing worse than misinformation or rumors. The Cloudfire service thing was an attempt to stop the problems, but it then seemed escalate into pain and suffering...
And all this right after new servers where fired up.

Well, I guess it's our turn now.

This has got me thinking....

Would it be possible to write a program that allows members of The Nexus to download all of the contents of the forum and Wiki periodically in case it ever comes under attack?

It would capture a snapshot of The Nexus.

Or even one that updates?

I use PDF creator to save any web page I want. The program takes the web page and turns the page into a PDF file. I use the program to keep the best teks on file in case something like what is happening to the shroomery happens.

It's a free program BTW. If any one knows of a better program please let me know. I am sure other member would like to know too like said above.

Sorry to hear about your guys' troubles...it really sucks that people escalate their pettiness to attacking valuable centers of research/information. I'm glad that we can return the favor, to whatever degree. Hope to see the site up and running soon.

blackdust, I just used adobe, directed it at the full range of wiki html pages and batch imported them into a pdf. After that it was just some minimal editing to clean up some odds and ends and turn into a functional, albeit far from pretty, pdf.

This is the my 2nd favorite site to go down to a DDoS attack in the last month (First being Demonoid ). Its why I'm here starting over I guess :l, also why I am building an entheobox, and would suggest others to do the same, I see 2013 as either a positive/negative year for such matters, mostly negative because such forums and websites have absolutely no protection, and when they go down the governments will be cheering that they are gone.

I joined this forum as a result of the shroomery going down, which I kind of see as a good thing because the people here are awesome. I already enjoy this community a lot.

both shroomery and demonoid are down! my god, this sucks. good luck with everything at the shroomery, i have actually being using my shroomery account more often these past few weeks, before they got attacked

Demonoid was not taken down by DDoS attacks, it was shut down by law enforcement, so it's extremely unlikely to see it again (even the attempts to sell the domain have been blocked).

The Shroomery, in the other hand, should survive this butthurt user and his tantrum. Let's hope it's soon.
