did this ever happen to anybody ?

SWIM made a pull with a naphtha that says 'white spirit' on the label, and following the reference number on the internet shows its a medium fraction naphtha... SWIM made 4 pulls from 600g MHRB, put together the first and second pulls and kept the other 2 separate. He was evaporating outside, on top of the hotplate in the low setting (maybe 40 degrees), with a fan in front, and a cloth on top to prevent dust. It was pre-evaporating for SWIM to put in the freezer, and some dmt was even crystalizing already.

Now check out how it looks:

The left one is the first and second pulls. The middle one which god knows why is the only with normal colour, is actually the fourth pull, and the right glass is the third pull.. They have some orange/red/pinkish tone to them that he never seen before, except maybe when evaping xylene to get jungle spice, which is not this case.

what can this be? Maybe some impurities that made it into the glass and when heating up it changed the colour of the whole thing? Bad naphtha? Or what?

SWIM just put it in the freezer and will see what happens.. He guesses he can always redissolve, wash, recrystalize and so on to clean, but still wonders whats up

Good quality Syrian rue (Peganum harmala) for an incredible price!

If SWIY did A/B and pulled with naphtha from rue, then the FB harmalas will have the tendency to turn reddish (oxidation? inactivation?) when they stay in the NP solvent. This is what SWIY might be seeing.

oh no wait, you probably are thinking I posted this about SWIM's rue extraction, but this thread is about his dmt MHRB extraction which he is also doing (he took these days to make a few things at once). So this is the naphtha from MHRB pulls in an STB

edit: sorry now saw that had written rue instead of MHRB

In the UK, at least, 'white spirit' is heavy naphtha with a small quantity of aromatic solvent. Somebody has pulled exhasted mimosa sludge with this white spirit, evapping down to leave a quantity of reddy/brown solid that certainly looks to be somewhere on the 'jungle spice' spectrum. He tells me he's not got round to bio-assaying it yet though. I suspect your solvent has just pulled a few extrasSmile

excellent info, thanks a lot! SWIM is in europe now so it might be the same case.

this might explain a lot of things actually, like why the colour is orange-ish and why there are some orange specs on the bottom, also like why it was also taking so long to evaporate and why now that he put in the freezer, its for some hours and only very little appeared so far.

SWIM will evap it all the way down and run with some other warm naphtha-only to pick up the dmt and then freeze precipitate.

this will take a few days to evap in this cold weather but once its done will post back the results
