SWIM has recently extracted using Toluene and has a small orange-reddy brown glob of goo sitting in a lasagna tray, the goo is thick and oily but is taking a really long time to turn into the fabled orange-wax like substance described in the old school literature. It has the very strong plasticy smell of spice and SWIM is eager to try it out.

Is there a way to speed up the hardening process? SWIM had it under a fan for a full day with only a slight change, how long does it take usually?

SWIM recommends redissolving jungle spice in pure alcohol (even naptha would work but I think pure alcohol has a lower boiling point) and then evaporating that down again. This will help remove any residual toluene which is most likely trapped within the gooey stuff. It also may help with the consistency a bit.

yes agreed with burnt

SWIM's jungle spice took days and days to get waxy, and this was only after he redissolved it in pure alcohol and let evaporate twice

better having patience than smoking toluene Very happy

okay, so SWIM doesnt have any pure alcohol on hand, so the naptha should be as hot as possible?

Then just dissolve and re-evap as usual?

Yea naptha should help with the removal of toluene. Because it will redissolve most of the gunk not all but enough, which should absorb residual toluene. One can speculate that residual toluene may cause jungle spice to remain gooey and not really harden up. Also toluene is somewhat toxic so inhaling it directly into lungs isn't so nice. Just make sure naptha is evaporated good.

I have always noticed that after I disturb the oil with something that it turns into a wax within 15 minutes. I have had oils that sat around for over a day that stayed as oil....... until I scraped them up with a razor blade or knife... then 15 minutes later is was a glob of wax.
All of the posts made are hypothetical and for educatiunal/entertainmint purposes only. SWIM (a fictional chaaracter) and his activities are completely fictional.

yes its true that scrapping it up and re-scrubbing the thing over and over a few times over time helps it hardening up also. SWIM makes a mixture of all of these techniques
