Just curious if anyone has any experience with this. It seems that in traditional Peruvian achuma shamanism, a purgative is frequently used prior to ingestion.

I'm wondering of syrup of ipecac might be a good choice for such a purge to get the body ready for this medicine. Especially in light of the fact that due to my schedule, my next journey will be in the evening after working that day, and I don't find that fasting and going to work combine all that well. Perhaps this could be a shortcut around fasting?

if you cannot accommodate achuma, achuma may not accommodate you. fasting builds intent, there is no short cut for intent. on a pharmacological note, i read somewhere that mescaline (and i assume other mesc alkaloids) work best with low blood sugar, so purging would not diminish ones blood sugar substantially. i like the idea of purging WITH fasting. if one was to use a purgative like psychotria epicac wouldnt psychotria viridis be a superior option Pleased

fasting during work is more difficult but, if you can do it, more power to you.

Thanks for the response Mew. I DO firmly believe in proper preparation, but i'm becoming a little impatient as life keeps not granting me the best opportunities for it.

I don't think I want to try tinkering with adding ayahuasca admixtures quite yet. I'm still acquainting myself with the cactus, and haven't tried ayahuasca yet (but I will be soon, have the materials, just haven't found the appropriate time...)

impatience solves nothing, plan your life in such a way that you cannot help but perform proper preparation. if life keeps chucking you curve balls and waylaying your plans, plan better as that time may not be the right time, or just wing it Pleased however i find that methodical approach to achuma has yielded the greatest results

you dont necessarily have to activate the psychotria virids with maoi caapi/harmalas, however it is purgative. my suggestion was just an idea. ive mixed aya and cactus and never had negative side effects. when i had my first totally transformational experience with cacti it was after doing a ton of aya earlier that day and continuing fasting

I really appreciate having someone like you with so much experience to bounce ideas off of! I certainly will in the future be combining ayahuasca and achuma, but I think I need to meet ayahuasca on it's own terms first, which will involve finding a time that I can observe the proper preparations...

my sentiments exactly, learn all medicines individually before combining them, and in combination reduce dosage to 1/3 for starters

i like how youre "finding a time to observe proper preparation" i feel that you will be greatly rewarded beyond that of hastiness for your due diligence

In most traditional use in Peru, a purgative is taken prior to ingestion.

You've never purged? What is your method of consumption? How much do you consume?

i purged a few times, none of which were on my larger doses (2-3 feet)
i eat powdered flesh with resin made from the cores mixed into globs

i also fast from dinner the night before till sunset the night of, then ingest cacti with minimal fluid (4oz per foot)

I sure did purge on my last experience. I brewed 120 grams dried peruvian torch chips into a tea, then reduced to tar. Rolled into balls and took as quickly as possible with as little water as possible. It was a lot of tar- bigger than a golf ball.

I couldn't even get it all down before I purged, and was concerned that I had lost all the goodies from purging early.

It ended up being a fantastic journey anyways, and I think the purge was actually one of the best parts. I was having a lot of negative feelings towards an off and on semi long distance semi ex girlfriend (I know, complicated) who told be she was seeing someone new. I felt like I really purged out all these negative feelings that were in me, and felt so much lighter and better.

What I learned from the experience- don't fear the purge! It can be one of the most healing aspects of what we do.

What I also learned- listed to myself instead of the advice of others. Had I followed my own advice, I would have taken the material MUCH more slowly so that my stomach wouldn't have rejected it as quickly. Like I said, I don't mind the purge, and it can be good, but I'd like to absorb all I can of the medicine first though.

when working with cactus it was always fresh living san pedro or torch. in the beginning soup was made and drank and later began boiling down to a resin.

usual amounts were between 30cm - 1m (+- of course.) that 1m piece would have been about 9- 10kg of fresh material. nausea and later stomach discomfort was experienced with larger amounts but no purge.

at times fresh cactus that were cored and skinned were blended with minimal water , strained and the vile raw liquid snot was drunk. (very very euphoric more so than cooked up cactus)
