hello all, I have a question about a cactus that I have

I bought it from a department store when I was much younger, and the cactus is very old, at least 6-7 years. It was not taken care of very well, as it was in a very shallow pot but grew to be about six feet tall. Some parts are rotted looking, and it's generally not doing that good. it's never branched, it's just one long ass column about 2 1/2 inches (6.4 cm) wide

I'm almost certain it's T. pachanoi. (i'm going to post a pic probably on Monday to ask) I cut the top off, little over a foot, and I'm sitting it out inside until it's ready to be potted (planning on just doing it outside because it's hot year-round)in a mixture of sand>>soil

with the rest of the cacti I'm going to dry it out and extract with xylene and salt out with vinegar. With your experience (and I know it can very widley) how do older plants do? should I just regrow the top and try to extract from that and not even bother?

basically I'm asking if I should just get a whole new plant, because I'm very excited to extract mescalin acetate

thanks
peace

Good quality Syrian rue (Peganum harmala) for an incredible price!

dear cactus appreciator,

if youre going to use xylene, i highly recommend you salt with hcl as it produces a much more cleanable/storable/measureable product.

if youre wondering how to do this, the salt ratio is as follows

25 ml of 30-33% hcl solution + 50 ml of water =75 ml 10% hcl solution
all 75ml of your 10% hcl solution + 375 ml water = 450 ml 1.5% hcl solution

be sure to swirl/mix this solution before salting

salt 4 times with 112.5 ml, each time shaking for a few minutes and letting sit for about 15 minutes

collect all salts and evporate on pie pan, the excess hcl will mostly evaporate off (benefit of hcl vs acetate)
scrape up your product and put in a glass beaker

its not quite pure but its close, to clean make MgSO4 by microwaving some epsom salts till they are white and hard through and through, break it up and put it in your fresh acetone, shake the acetone effectively drying it.

let acetone settle to avoid MgSO4 contaminants and
pippette your dry acetone and cover your mescaline salts with about an inch of acetone, mix mescaline into it, let settle pippette off acetone, repeat until acetone is clear, evaporate all your discarded acetone and repeat the initial cleaning step once to retrieve all lost mescaline.

dry your mescaline on pie pan its voila beautiful hcl xtals, they can be recrstalized through water or mek (more info when you get there)

```` k that was salting`````
heres my preffered method of fresh cactus extractions, slice up your cactus thinly and dice it, it should tiny little chunks. freeze these, once frozen solid put into pot and simmer for 2 hours with a twist of lemon, 2 liters per foot should be enough. pour tea off into jug, add another 2 liters of water per foot with another twist of lemon, do another 2 hour simmer. let the tea cool, once cool, strain your cacti pulp one handful at a time through a shirt by wringing it out, compost the exhausted cactus flesh. combine both teas and reduce to 1 liter. let this settle for a few hours/ over night (in fridge for best results) decant/ pour off away from the sediment and reduce down to 350 ml, let settle again, decant once more away from the sediment. i typically alow a few days to go by once this last reduction has taken place and alot of gunk precipitates out that wasnt there originally, its whitish and thick. so maybe let your reduced tea sit even longer than a few hours...
bassify this tea and pull with 200 ml nps (xylene or orange oil) repeat 5 times
salt your liter as prescribed above
congratz you haz mescaline bruh
Thanks Mew I have this thread book marked. I ordered 18 various t pachanoi, t puruvians, and t brigesii. They are small.... so I probably won't be doing this for a long while, but the wait will make my first mescaline trip that much better.
could you perhaps explain the water recrystallization?
im told that also super saturating some MEK with clean mescaline hcl and letting it evaporate slowly yields fantastic results as well:
to super saturate a solvent is chosen (MEK) and brought to a boil to maximize its ability to dissolve (mescaline hcl)
add enough mescaline hcl until no more dissolves (use tiny amounts of mek) let the solution cool; thus, reducing its ability to keep the mescaline hcl dissolved. after your solvent returns to room temperature there is some mescaline hcl precipitated, as the MEK evaporates the crystals will grow off of the already insoluble crystals (like seeds)
this is how i understand it, i honestly have never tried going that far, i clean my mesc with 4-5 washes of dry acetone and am blown away by the powder, so i was never compelled to go further.
phlux's approach seems simple enough considering youre just using more acetone and water, no need to go buy MEK
