EDIT: Although when the video expressly mentions the nexus, I guess self preservation could be a reasonable reason (although still not really justification) for flagging. The basis behind the idea of flagging such videos is that if someone wants to FIND OUT about DMT, they will eventually find their way here--and can learn about it sensibly, responsibly, and accurately. When the information is broadly available to the public it can result in people trying it recreationally, AND in bringing it's use MUCH more to the foreground in terms of publicity--at which point government interest in MHRB and similar things may increase to uncomfortable levels.

I understand the basis. It's the same kind of basis that governments will use to disappear the nexus one of these days. They will of course go one step further and say that people just shouldn't be able to access any information about it because it will lead them to try it (which is true, I would never have been able to get access to DMT without sites like this). Like I said, I'm not saying I approve of the videos. I think they are uploaded by ignorant people who don't know any better... but what gives us the right to decide what they post online? Pulling other people's content off of the network because you feel you know what's best for the world is wrong, no matter how rational your argument for it is. I am just against censorship in general. There are perhaps some very extreme things that should be kept off of sites like youtube (porn, cp, excessive gore, snuff) to protect children from seeing it... but I can't see any way of justifying taking down drug videos, especially when there are far more dangerous drugs that are openly shown on youtube (the vice documentary on krokodil all but tells you how to make the stuff, and it is mainstream). Why not just post in the comments section explaining the situation, and the comment would be upvoted by any nexian who watches it and any other person with a clue about DMT. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the nexus took part in the inernet blackout to protest SOPA didn't it? Opposing one form of censorship whilst actively engaging in another just seems like hypocrisy. I don't care that much. I think this is a great community and me having a differing opinion on this one subject doesn't change that. Do what you feel is right. -Я Ξ √ Ω L U T ↑ Ø N-

I agree that censorship is "wrong," and that a thinking and fair person would not engage in it.
I also think that lying is wrong: but when the Nazis come knocking on my door to ask whether I'm hiding any jews, I will be happy to lie and say I'm not.
In this particular case, saying we're involved in "censorship" doesn't completely describe our actions; saying we're using adroit methods to sidestep senseless and onerous policies of mindless government busybodies--policies the youtube poster in question ALSO wishes to sidestep--does more accurately describe our interest in flagging certain youtube videos.
When injustices (like psychedelic prohibition) are introduced into society, other injustices are "involuntarily" propagated.

I'm answering since this is in Open Discussion and you might still be able to look at the thread even if you cannot log back in. I think we will all agree that flagging/reporting videos that have dangerous or misleading contents is not only acceptable, but a duty - particularly if the goals of a community like this are to illustrate people and dispel the fog of drug war. One of the reasons why the Nexus has been online and healthy for so long is the simple fact that you won't find here endorsement of buying or selling drugs. I think we can agree in that as well. Then you have someone who is selling a substance that is controlled in the majority of the world, and is using the "DMT NEXUS" name in the video he posts in youtube. Am I supposed to believe he came up with that name in an unfortunate random brain storming? No, I don't think so. No matter how obviously unrelated to the actual DMT Nexus the contents of the video may look to us, users in the community, it's pretty obviously a link here - a link that provides contents that are against the DMT Nexus goals 101. Was it so difficult to just use a descriptive title that did not capitalize on existing independent resources in the internet? What if someone used your name in a video displaying contents to which you don't relate at all? Wouldn't you be allowed to flag it or ask the poster to take it down, or at least to change the title? Even if I firmly believe that ayahuasca is not something to be sold, but rather something to be learned and brewed, I would not flag a video of someone selling ayahuasca. He might be in Peru, or Brazil. And even if he is doing something illegal, as long as no one gets hurt, it's none of my business. But the title was capitalizing on the Nexus. And the Nexus has nothing to do with it. So I think the users and admins of this community had every single right to flag the video. And labeling that as "censorship" is out of proportion. I actually really did have no intention of returning, so did indeed void my other account beyond repair... but I felt an overwhelming urge to respond to this as I feel it was a bit unfair. To be clear, this complaint of yours about flagging videos was not an isolated occurrence. You've gone on record many times with your opinions on the matter. You find us all to be fascist censors and this is certainly your call. I invite you to seek out a more democratic gathering of folks who don't so offend your sensibilities.

In long term it wasn't a good idea to censor the videos. You can't learn a lesson when ignoring/censoring the "errors" from which to learn. In short term it instantly reduces any pressure on the subject.. What is learned cannot be unlearned.
