Hmm well the conventional wisdom regarding set and setting is usually all that needs to be said in situations like these, but I have a question for the Nexus that might deserve it's own thread but is certainly applicable to this one...
I highly value the psychedelic experience, and I know beyond any reasonable doubt that it could benefit a great many of my friends, family, and otherwise complete strangers who I will never meet. For individuals who are inexperienced, there can be a lot of hesitation, resistance, and downright denial to the experience even though he or she might be comfortable talking about it or they express an interest. So let's group the psychedelic experience in with the lot of other important and transformative life experiences that there are to be had and answer the following question: is it always "wrong" to push the psychedelic experience on someone? Because while it certainly can be, and good does not always come out of forcing someone to do something that he or she is not fully committed to, good does sometimes come out of it. I think we can all agree that there have been times in our lives when frankly we did not want to do something but ended up doing it and were rewarded for doing so. Additionally, sometimes you NEED someone else to encourage and push you forward, because goodness knows that some people are more stubborn than a mule and aren't good at making decisions. I'm not a believer in telling others how to live--I'm certainly not perfect--but a lot of people WANT to be told how to live and instead of preaching the Word of God maybe telling those people to smoke DMT instead would be a good thing, no? If you leave it to your friend to decide for himself, guess what? He might never go through with it. Knowing what you know now about DMT, wouldn't you be thankful to a friend for turning you onto that experience and encouraging you take a leap of faith when you were in doubt?
I'm not suggesting that you force your friend to smoke DMT, but I'm approaching the set and setting argument from another angle because that's how I think. I like to consider the different possibilities. It's something that I've thought about in the past and I'm almost certain that someone else has had the same thoughts.
