Hey! I've decided to make THE MACHINE, and for that I need steel scrubber pieces. I've burned a piece of a long time, it's black as coal but keeps smoking. What shall I do? :o

I've been heating a little piece for like 30 minutes, and it just keep smoking. I've tried cooling it and reheating it, but toxic smoke just keeping pumping out Sad

Hm. I scrubbed it and washed it in water for somme minutes. It smokes less now.

EDIT: Okay, I think I've uncovered some valuable information (for me at least). It seems I had to roast the steel mesh in the lighter flame until it went black with soot. Then I had to rinse it with water and wash it with soap to get the soot off, and only afterwards it stopped giving off noxious black fumes. If I'd realized that earlier, I could have saved about 20 minutes of frustrating manual labor (twisting and turning the ball of steel wool in and out of the flame trying to get rid of whatever was creating the smoke).

I think it might be ready for use now.

Steel wool will burn if you hold it in a flame so, if that's what you were doing, the smoke you were seeing was from the steel wool combusting. When you're vaporizing DMT, you won't be holding the flame nearly as close. The sweet spot for The Machine is around 6" below the steel wool. My point is that there will always be fumes if you hold the lighter close enough to the steel wool. You want to burn impurities off of the steel wool without burning the steel wool itself. Also, this will be easier with thicker steel wool. Otherwise, it sounds like you have it figured out anyway, so good luck to you.

The Machine is awesome, by the way.

Yeah, I know, that's what I thought at first. I started at 6" thinking I would bring the lighter in to around 2", but as soon as I held the lighter there: Huge plumes in the body of the machine.
