There are a few brief mentions of lemon oil around this site, one as an antiemetic, two as a psychedelic.

I assume I am not the only person experimenting. How about we gather some data?

My own data

* 6 drops lemon oil in "Ice Gel" menthol topical gel - presumably similar to US product "Icy Hot". Applied to lower torso. No effect.

* 12 drops, as above but to upper legs, no effect.

One report (not by me) on herbs.maxforum.com suggested strong effects with 10 drops in IcyHot (topical). As above, I have not been able to replicate this.

I will post back here as I do further experiments into both reported uses.

Good quality Syrian rue (Peganum harmala) for an incredible price!

..and you won't be able to replicate it....Big grin Seriously.

Most of the stuff posted in herbs.maxforum.com is unbridled bullshit.

Infundibulum, I posted that on that other forum. I wasn't trying to post bullshit. However, I do realize and understand completely that my experience was not shared by some other people. My account has since been deleted by the moderator because I challenged his research.

I'd like to ask the original poster if he uses tobacco. I noticed that when using nicotine replacement therapy, lemon oil had no effect on me. Is it possible that if you don't use nicotine that it might work? Just a thought.

I also noticed that it could take 3 consecutive applications before the experience was achieved. I don't know why that is.

Thanks oilman - no, I don't smoke.

I might give it another go, although I find the smell and the burning sensation (possibly the Ice Gel's fault) not that fun.

SWIM also tried combining 6 drops (oral) with mushrooms and got no effect from the mushrooms. It should have been a low active dose. However they were stored powdered and very slightly damp for a few weeks so possibly degradation has occurred.

Yeah lemon oil can be nasty stuff. I have sensitive skin and it can really get itchy and burn. It is also photosensitive, so don't put it on your arms and then go out in the sun! Gives a nasty burn.

I know a lot of people use lemon oil to prevent nausea from other substances, they drink a few drops of the stuff before the main experience. I've seen people conjecture that something in the oil works at certain HT sites, thus preventing nausea. I doubt anything in lemon oil works at HT2 and competes with the mushrooms, but I guess it could be possible.

I theorized a while back that since essential oils are usually active at smell receptors in the brain, maybe when the oils are absorbed by other parts of the body they interact with these receptors in an unusual way, thus producing a strange experience. But more tests would need to be done for that to be confirmed - it's just speculative.

I was thinking of this and checked back into my old aromatherapy book. Lemon oil is described there as giving energy, balancing mood, and as "uplifting the spirit". Now aromatherapy has been around for a long time, and while they don't exactly use scientific methods when researching their claims, it must have some amount of validity simply because it's been around so long.

So I would anticipate that you'd get some of that when using the lemon oil you have. But again, while I've had great experiences with it, I know other people get nothing. So I wouldn't run out and buy a lifetime supply but if you have some to experiment with, here are some ideas:

Mix 10 drops of lemon oil into some 80 proof vodka. There will be an oil layer on top of impurities that will not dissolve. Get rid of that layer. Whatever dissolves in the alcohol can enter the brain through the so called "trojan horse" method. If you get effects, then great. If not, I'm probably just an odd ball.

Hello! Sorry to dig up an old thread but I have to contribute.

About 2 years ago, I decided to try lemon oil. Actually, what I had was lemon extract that I purchased at the grocery. This is simply lemon essential oil dissolved in alcohol. I don't remember how much I consumed (mixed into a small amount of tea with lots of sugar), but it was WAAAY more than enough to taste it.

I do remember distinctly that my vision was altered for about 2 days. It was strange. I could perceive absolutely no other effect from this, but there were vivid patterns in my vision, almost like a rippling of my visual field. I was glad that I didn't have to work because it would have been difficult if it was possible.

Perhaps this has to do with serotonin receptors. I don't really know.

I've tried lemon essential oil 5 times. Each time I experienced stimulant and antidepressant effects verging on mild euphoria. Three of the time I experienced undeniable visual effects mostly consisting of tracers. Interestingly, these visuals were most apparent in low light, but were not noticeable in bright light or if it was too dark. It also seems to synergize well with megadoses of Saint John's wort.

My dose was usually about 2 tablespoons orally on an empty stomach. This doses may be too high for some people since I tend to need higher doses than most people for most drugs. It would be better to start with a lower dose.
Maay-yo-naze!

Might be a nice addition to mushroom tea

I've taken Lemon EO quite a lot so far, i mainly stick to 10 drops of undiluted Lemon EO in a capsule taken once a day. It can take a few days (up to 10 days, once a day, daily) to build up in the body, but it has definite effects, even from the start.

It has Limonene which activates the Adenosine A2A receptor and i think has some interesting effects there as the A2A receptor interacts with Dopamine 2 and 3 receptors, Metabotropic Glutamate 5 receptors, and CB1 receptors. It also has Alpha-Pinene which inhibits Acetylcholinesterase and has some GABAergic properties. It works wonderfully for anxiety/stress, much preferred ime over something like Xanax so far.

It hasn't been Psychedelic for me, but when i smoke Cannabis i do notice a cleaner Cannabis high, and it feels like it makes the Cannabis more sativa-like (kinda like high grade Lemony strains) and reduces the Cannabis-related anxiety and paranoia and makes the headspace more enjoyable.

There are some rather noticeable tracers in certain light conditions, i've also seen tracers of stop signs a few times while driving at night.

I like how Lemon EO makes me physically feel, and definitely gives me a bit more of a stable and grounded headspace.

As for nausea/vomiting relief, early experiments with Lemon EO combined with Rue and Acacia seemed promising, but i need to investigate further, it did seem to do away with the nausea/vomiting, i think, but i took it usually either sometime right before the Rue or sometime right after, but it did seem to help.

And the Lemon EO also seemed to alter the Aya experience in a rather interesting but different way, something i think is worth more investigation, almost feels like Lemon EO does something with my sensory/perceptual center a bit, and is even a good bit noticeable with Cannabis. Lemon EO also seems to help a good bit with heartburn/gerd, as well as digestion, though i seem to get a bit of constipation (at 10 drops or more), and some diarrhea (8 drops, usually happens when you first start taking it and after a few days the diarrhea goes away), from it but that's pretty much the only undesirable side-effects i've noticed.

I've tried different dosages of Lemon EO but so far 6 to 10, possibly 12 drops, seems like a good dose, i would recommend a try, just make sure it's good quality oil, some brands are diluted or are not good quality, i get mine from a vendor on ebay and i've stuck with it for a couple years now, it's good oil. I've also tried Orange EO and Lime EO, but idk, they just don't resonate with me as much as Lemon, and so far Lemon seems much better than Orange or Lime.
