Everybody forgive me for putting this in the wrong topic forum but I just logged on this morning and saw in " other Entheogens" forum that I posted a topic about "where do you get your entheogens from" and saw that they were advertising for Bouncing Bear Botanicals

I DID NOT POST THAT!

I have been idol from the DMT Nexus for about a month and a half and was wondering if anyone else has experienced being "hacked"

I'm not sure if someone has been on my comp or knows my pass but I will be changing it immedietly.

I'm sorry for the inconvienence.

its nice to know that BBB (or an affiliate) is hacking into peoples stuff and trying to advertise here...doesnt that seem kinda like illegal..seeing as how none of us use root bark like that...if i ran bbb i wouldnt want to be connected to information that uses my products illegally..and advertising that they got good spice from it

Maybe bouncing bear should be contacted and told that one of their affiliates is hacking forums and attempting to advertise using people's signatures.

The forum wasn't hacked, no other member has been affected. Probably somebody is playing a game with this person or intruded his/her computer.

This happened to me once on my email and whatnot (not on this site). "Anonymous" hacked my accounts and posted pictures and left messages for me. There didn't seem to be any ill-intent however, but it was a bit annoying. One of their messages said that they "approved of me." Being hacked for spamming purposes is another matter though.

I hate hackers.

My wife's computer is infected with a nasty virus and none of the anti-virus software can detect it. I’ve installed dozens of different ones. The virus keeps redirecting web pages, won't allow you to visit any anti-virus web sites, won't allow Windows update to function, won't allow System Restore to function, and won't even allow you to check the hard drive for errors. It's a serious virus. I hope none of you get it.

I'm a computer expert, and I cannot get rid of that virus. I've tried everything. I've searched every site on Google for help and can't find anything that works. I’m still working on the problem. As a last resort, I’ll back up everything, reformat it, and re-install everything.

Just opt for a linux OS, they tend to be virus-free. I've never had problems with viruses in linux environment, and that is without using firewalls or virus scanners.Pleased

Ha! I got a nasty virus like that (it completely destroyed spybot), and it's what drove me to completely switch over to Ubuntu. Best thing that ever happened to my computer.

Making the switch is too costly. I have too much software I invested in that only runs on Windows.

i just switched over to fedora 10 from suse after almost a 3 year run with the latter. (actually use a dual-boot linux/winxp)
suse freezes too easily, though it's very flexible.
tried ubuntu, I didn't like it. I definitely dig fedora 10, it's very stable and has flexibility somewhere between ubuntu and suse.

Totally fair argument, many windows programmes do not run on ubuntu. But on the other hand, plenty of windows programmes run under the windows emulator (called wine through ubuntu)

It's really worth the effort, I use dual boot and reserve windows only when I need to run windows programmes that do not run well under linux' windows emulator. I boot on windows on average once or twice a week.

It is really worth the try, I enjoy computers far more under the Ubuntu linux distribution

Here's a tip:

Since this virus probably crippled any antivirus tool you have on that PC you need to put the hard disk of the infected PC into a healthy PC. Make sure you boot from the healthy hard disk and install the newest antivirus kits on the healthy OS. After that, scan the infected hard disk with the newest kits.

Get a trial version of you AV installed to a flash drive(I recommend Nod32), update it, and boot into safe mode. run it from the flash drive. Wine runs a LOT of programs under linux, I personally like OpenSUSE for daily use, though there are some other great distros out there.

Never thought of this before. If this works as it seems it would, there shouldn't be much--if any--risk of infecting another boot drive.

It's unfortunately a lap top. I don't have the proper adaptor to make it work in my desktop. What I've done is load the virus scanners from CD with all their updates. I've tried many scanners. None can find the virus.
