Quote:Deland authorities say a teenager shot himself in the head to wake up from a magic-mushroom induced nightmare.
The Daytona Beach News-Journal reports that 17-year-old Steve Tilbury consumed several mushrooms, then drank a tea made from them, while with friends in his home.
He told investigators that he fell asleep not long after his friends left. But when he awoke from his nap, he reportedly thought he was still stuck in his nightmare.
“Tilbury said he woke up and it felt like it wasn’t real,” the deputy’s report states, adding that he felt trapped in his own home. “[He] said he thought if he shot himself he would wake up from the bad dream.”
Police say the confused teen then buried a .22-caliber bullet into his forehead. He miraculously survived, but still felt as though he was in a living dream.
The paper learned that Tilbury reportedly tried to clean his blood off the floor, before going outside and happening upon a stranger, who took him to Florida Hospital Deland.
Deputies asked him if he was attempting suicide.
“No, I just wanted to wake up from the bad nightmare,” he reportedly replied. “I am happy and I love my life.” source

This kid is a Complete Idiot , things like this do a lot of damage and fuel more ignorance and hysteria. I hate to see this it makes me sick. The only way of discovering the limits of the possible is to venture a little way past them into the impossible. Arthur C. Clarke http://vimeo.com/32001208

Must learn to meditate if you gonna do high doses. Shoot, last night I was trapped in the shadow of the pyramid, all alone, receiving alien distress signals "ruktuktuktuk ruktuktuktuk ruktuktuktuk" They are trapped underground and cannot bear the sun's waves, they must stay hid. Infinity opens and swirls into creeping, crawling carpet, I get pulled in, there is a foot on each other side of the fractal? ohh those are my feet, I'm squatting and staring at the floor. twisting turning, breathe in... relax... breathe out.... do not think.... float... light streams through you near closed eyes, like ribbons through your lashes, breathe. A hard wave to ride is just that... just ride, don't shoot yourself in the face. Careful out there kiddos, it isn't this brain driver I gotta worry about, it's all the other people driving a brain outta control. "We're selling more than a cracker here," Krijak said. "We're selling the salty, unctuous illusion of happiness."

you pinch yourself to wake up from a dream (or at least check if you're dreaming), not put a gun to your head and pull the trigger. stupid kid "Nothing is true, everything is permitted." ~ hassan i sabbah "Experiments are the only means of attaining knowledge at our disposal. Is this really the nexians attitude? He was an idiot? WTF? If this is the general attitude on this board I'll just leave. Simply because person doesn't know how to think when in drugged state doesn't make him an idiot but more like a person who doesn't know how to handle the drug. I feel like calling the kid idiot is ignorant, it was an accident. He was drugged and was detatched from reality and because he didn't know how to handle it in that state he did what he did, which is horrible of course. When person is tripping heavily like that with no previous experience, no sitter, and can't think straight can lead to something like this(in worst case of course). And this isn't the first time someones done(or tried) a suicide while under the influence of the mushroom, one can just google if in need of proof(I don't like to talk about it). It's easy for us to assume he was an idiot, but we should rather try to understand that it truely can be heavy experience for some people when tripping hard and before judging him one should think twice. It's easy for some of us to say: "He was just tripping, he should have realized that and not do an idiotic thing", but it was and accident due to him not realizing he was drugged and not being able to handle the drug. I am so glad he survived.

I've broken bones on shrooms. Definitely an accident. I don't have a clear memory of climbing around over our central air shaft or of whatever exotic skydiving maneuver it was that I attempted, but apparently at the time I thought it was a good idea.
In my case, a sitter would have been the answer (7g powdered psilocybin preceded by 100mg rue- not a solo dose, apparently)
But in this kid's case, any sitter would likely figure their job was done when he went to sleep. So this is really an unfortunate and hard to prevent perfect storm situation. I'm just glad it was only a .22 that he had access to. If any big mistake was made here, it was a tripping person allowing themselves access to a firearm. That should be in your Pre-trip checklist- get the guns outta the house!

No, what makes him an idiot is keeping a loaded gun around while tripping on shrooms. Please, and lock the firearms in the safe before you take the drugs! I don't understand how you all can judge the kid with the bare minimum information you have about him. I'm not hating i'm just saying.
Maybe he did think that 100% the life he is living is a dream? I can imagine someone being on a horrible trip and feeling ''stuck'' in himself/life, and trying to escape it by killing himself. There is nothing stupid about this.
AND there is nothing wrong with making mistakes on psychedelics. Don't blame the person. You can't have people taking psychs with 0 casualties. However the media will hype the story up because the big men controlling this system don't like drugs which will potentially wake you up, therefore they gotta ridicule it using the power of the media.
If there is a caffeine casualty like this no one would give a shit.

It matters not what he said, but what he did. A drunken man may beat his wife and say he loves her. Would this be an accident as well? A willful act is just that: willful. His state of mind is no excuse. Now, if he'd tripped over the gun and it went off, that would be an accident, but consciously lifting it to your head and pulling the trigger is an intentional act. Don't blame the drugs. What of the apocryphal tale of the man on LSD jumping out the window because he thought he was Superman? Is that an accident, or poor judgement? Hindsight may be twenty-twenty, but that doesn't change facts. The Shift is About to Hit the Fan

He might have decided to shoot himself in the head, jump off a cliff, etc. It's a collection of bad circumstances. Youth, ignorance, high dosing, gun. Trying to pinpoint the reason to just one circumstance is ignoring the rest. And if I had to choose one, it would be lack of information. Not the shrooms, nor the gun. Now can we move on, please?
