Howdy folks

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=odsd3Eb2vTA

So I have often been in two minds about the popular streaming video site, the beast known as youtube. On the one hand we have quite a few nice documentaries, debates, talks and general musings about psychedelics. It's sometimes nice to chill and watch the history of LSD or people discussing mushrooms and such, without having to read through pages and pages of research just to feel like you are not being lied to.

Sadly, this is not the case with DMT... Hardly a newcomer to the scene, although not quite as popular, DMT is the chemical currently with the most widespread BS traveling at an alarmingly fast rate because of sites like youtube, and n00bs who desperately want the myths to be true.

Where do you folks think this will end up? Will DMT forever be shrouded in BS, thanks to the vast legions of wannabe intellectuals paying too much attention to Joe Rogan and Strassman? Will it take decades for the facts to emerge, as with other substances ? I personally believe flagging and fact spamming the absolute CRAP out of videos like this would be a step in the right direction.

I'm just interested to know what others think.

Our job as nexians is to flag those videos(at least those that include drug use). And it would be much better if some of the members here could do some proper videos about it. I'm not skilled enough for that though, so I'll just flag the BS.

Agreed. Except what exactly do you mean about "paying too much attention to Rogan and strassman"?

I'm pretty sure if one paid close enough attention one would learn that:

A: they both claim they don't really know
B: Rogan says to do your own research
C: the both claim they don't really know
D: strassman claims the pineal gland theory is just that, a theory

that's the thing, most people don't pay that close attention. to many of the testosterone-driven types, rogan is a hero; so when they hear "whoa, this is a mind-blowing chemical, bro", they're not really going to do some critical thinking. maybe I'm overgeneralizing, but based on a lot of the comments I've read on the rogan vids, I don't think i'm that far off.

I agree that the insane proliferation of BS on the internet about DMT is pretty irritating and counter-productive. I don't see any way to stop it but flagging and commenting helps, as would making some legit videos i suppose.

But.. am i missing something here? That video you posted mentions nothing of the pineal gland, and never even claims that dmt is produced within the brain.. Just that its an endogenous neurotransmitter in the brain (which has been shown before)

<Ringworm>hehehe, it's all fun and games till someone loses an "I"

Exactly universecannon, in no way does that prove DMT is made in the brain, I laughed when I watched this.

Anarchy, allow me to rephrase: People pay too much attention to the sensation and hype attributed to Strassman and Rogan, though upon actually looking into it one will find that this is a huge misconception.

Benz, nice Smile I had a go too but seems he blocked me. Quote me: 'source?' Confused

Another good way to combat this ignorance is to comment on the videos you can't flag just as benzyme did.

It seems that most people on youtube go there just to get in arguments in the comments, not actually watch videos. If you throw down some real knowledge it will be seen and though some may try to troll and talk shit at least the truth will be out there.

On a side note, benz you've got taste in music my friend.

Definitely not new to the Nexus despite my low post count and I agree with you all! (is it hard to believe that I've never needed to post for help understanding anything here due to the "search" feature + awesome community chat?)

Excuse me if this video has already been posted but since we're on the topic of flagging videos, might as well flag this one:
