can anyone help me with identification of this cactus ? is it worth extracting from, if nothing else for the sake of experimentation..?! any input is greatly appreciated !

not 100% sure, but looks like peruvianus to me
a clear pic of the tip with spines would help, the pics you posted on thenook are too blurry
are they of the same cactus? did you remove the spines in this pic??

does it taste biter?

yes, it is the same cactus..but despined in the photo above. i havent tasted bigger piece of it. i licked a small cutted part and it was more salty than bitter, but i will test it again.also the photos are messy i know but its a phone camera, best i can do for now.

the tip of this whole arm is actually the fourth small piece on the right also verticaly aligned.here's the other photo you mentioned, with spines. thanks for the input

Don't the ribs look thin for a trichocereus?

probably so, im pretty out of it at the moment

dont know if its dehydrated, the arm was broken laying on the ground for some time i am sure. but looking on many pics from different trichocereus, they all have longer spines when they grow big. this one had pretty short spines.

anyway, after chewing a bigger piece i felt no bitterness at all. does that sums it up pretty much ?

looks like a cereus spp. unfortunately, no mescaline. cool cacti though.

8 is an incredibly high number of ribs for a trichocereus pachanoi, peruvianus, or bridgesii

it seems unlikely that this cactus is entheogenic

yes it definitely looks like cereus.just checked the google images. i found another one which has 6 ribs and longer spines. it looks even more like peruvianus. i will take photos and post them later in the day. its pretty amazing cactus, at least 2 meters in height.

here they are..
it looks different than the cactus i posted before. the first and obvious difference is the number of ribs and the spine length and color.

i got a permission to take a cutting before i leave, so i am really excited to take a piece of this baby home, active or not...they are amazing !

so, anyone has a clue ? is this active ?

after googling, my thoughts are this is just another variant of Cereus.

yes thats another cereus of some sort. there are so many of them.

keep hunting. hopefully youll find something.

my votes for a cerus, what color is the fur under the spines? brown or white?
