It seems you have made this about your feelings in reguards to being positive...when I and others have referred to the integrity of the film "the secret"..how you feel about being positive and the real motivation etc behind this film are 2 very different things.

What you seem to have done was make some statement about our planet being in a desolate universe(which is not even truth) in order to make a point in support of being postive, as a supporting point in opposition to some(imagined) idea you have that said anything about being delusional or againsst positivity.

I thought we were talking about the book, which was a pleasant read, and seemed to be aligned with metaphysical theory, and was kinda along the lines of most other higher end spirituality self help books, but made simple. The book did mention some new stuff other books didn't, and maybe this was one reason why people don't manifest their dream lives: cos deep down they somehow don't feel worthy of what they were trying for. Maybe their spirit didn't really care for that "stuff" anyhow.

It's quite funny to use spirituality to get rich. However desiring a nice job, partner, house, etc is reasonable enough, and our basic need. But red ferraris..c'mon!

I saw the movie, and thought it was crap. The book was much better. Some authors just don't look good in the movies, but write well.

That said, i did enjoy the book, did see the possible rip off, but did see some interesting points. That book was at least as interesting a read as the rest that were about at the time. And it made all the contributers with wierd names who i never heard of before, and who looked like a bunch of wierdo's rich, i guess.

yes I did..and the context of that statement is important. That statement was (in part) to your response to me about how people just see negative patterns when they think negative thoughts..which again is a logical fallacy. There is some real negativity in the world..to deny that is stupid, and dangerous. I dont know what else to say here. Im not trying to offend you or anyone else..that is just what I believe.

again, "the secret" contained good info and bad info. the delivery isnt important at all unless you take everything literally. I like to intake info and learn from it. Whether its bad info or not you can still come out on top. Or you can dwell on what you dont like about things and be counter productive.

^Sure there might be something there to take from it, becasue we all already know thet thinking positivly is "good info"..but in general IMO the book and movie were materialistic horse sh*t..anyone can write a book about being positive..everyone knows this. To come back with that, in defence of a book that went on and on about something we all already know, a book that became a movie and is now like some freaking tradmark brand selling it as "the secret" making millions is just kind of weird..It's just corperate america..not much of a secret if you ask me.

Havent you ever had a conversation with someone talking about something you already have some kind of understanding about, and yet something they say or in the way they say it, that it opened up a new view or idea in your mind that you didnt come to by yourself?

I really believe that the book, and much information within the new age just dumb down and commercialize esoteric knowledge that once held some truth and relevance. I find it tacky..that is all. To me it is just typical. It is like the church..they say there is this god, you are spirit and all this nice sounding stuff, but then they taint it with all this dictator crap and fill your head with scary ideas of a vengeful god..

The secret is all about financial gain, financial gain within a system that is busted..a system that is so broken that we have monarchs living off of us in mansions while we scrape by day to day..and us trying to move up and make more money in that system is what feeds these people and supports that same system.

..and some lady wrote a book about using some esoteric knowledge for superficial gain that supports that same system that is creating the problem people are trying to solve by reading the book in the first place? Why should I think that is so great?

Maybe she really just wanted to help people make more money..I dont care to argue that because I dont know..and it is not my point.

My point is that I found the book and the movie trivialized esoteric knowledge as if it was just some way to make extra cash. It diverts people from the real issues that need to be addressed. The real problems have nothing to do with the secret to making more money.

This is why when I saw the movie and then read through the book I just found it to be materialistic and tacky. It did not strike me as genuine. Something about the whole secret product line(which is what it has become) just seems very plastic, which is typical.

I really do just think that this sort of thing is a way to market a product towards new agers, and that it helps reinforce a materialistic mindset that the corperations want the public to have.

That the people that bring the info, why they bring it, and how incorrect it can be, doesnt really matter? yes its sad that people are able to market such low quality products for financial gain. yes its disturbing that good info can be twisted and changed to facilitate a different goal. but that stuff only effects you if you pay attention to it.

In a way you are furthering its agenda. By allowing it to effect you. Don't give the bullies what they want. take from them what you need while they falsely believe they got the better of you. They got money, I got knowledge. Not the knowledge they were hoping for, theirs was false. What I received was REAL.

BTW I DID NOT pay for the secret, it was pirated. I'm sorry i know it isnt allowed on this site, but i did it.

Yea, i guess it pains some to realise that some lady had an idea that might help some people, or may not. She did it anyway, and made a lot of money, and can now spend the rest of her life chilling in the Caribbean whilst those that didn't act stew and bitch about their unfair horrible lives, and just how the system is always against them. Thing is, she did ok out of it though, and had more balls then the rest, proved that the system can work for people if they understand it, and helped herself as well as inspired others.

Look, pretty much most jobs that you do are corrupted or simply there due to society's exagerrated needs. It's mostly a lotta crap. Get what you can whilst you can as long as it's in some way positive, i say. I think the book was ok, but dunno why it's spoken about on this thread. I can think of FAR better self help books, but it was a good book when it came out, and YES the marketting worked with sales=money=better life choice possibilities. Hey if a book can't make the most of the system, then it's either a deviant book, or a crap book.

Let's just say that the Secret was a sucess for the author, and i guess that sucks for some of you guys. Why bother talking about it then? Why not talk about a better book then? 'Feel the fear' by Susan Jeffers was a great success and a good book, and she like all of todays self help brigade wants to become rich in helping others, even though she isn't highly qualified in her field.

Maybe you guys need to write your own book ?

Make sure your book isn't a financial success so your not a SELLOUT

The law of attraction is a belief or theory, that "like attracts like," and that by focusing on positive or negative thoughts, one can bring about positive or negative results.
