I have to say that personally I found value in the Secret as it was put together in a very easy to understand format and the overall concept is empowering to know that you are in control of many aspects of your life through the tools that we have had all along. I do agree with many of your perspectives as far as believing in materialistic abundance as a form of success and happiness which is clearly far from it, but who can't dream about it? If it will motivate people or even just one person to get off their ass and start productively contributing to society instead of always being depressed in their unproductive self-loathing mindstate than it is already worth its existence in my book. Different tools for different fools!

Kobra: absolutely. I agree with what you said. The only thing people are having issues with is the bigger idea that "the secret" tries to sell. That ALL your problems are because of negative thought and not putting enough positive thought into it. And that you will get rich and need to be a part of the 1%.

I also gained much understanding from the secret. But it was MOsTLY due to my ability to see further into things. I took what info I needed out of it and expanded it on my own.

Again i want to say this. I notice a lot of you are focusing on the bad things that "the secret" has to offer, like how its based on materialism and becoming rich using positive thought. My main point is this. Someone took an awesome idea, that you need to think more positively, and made it into a becoming rich scheme. But the main idea was this,

Instead of saying "I dont want to be sad" You say "I want to be happy"

The difference is instead of constantly verbalizing the things you dont want, you start to verbalize what you do want.

I want a better job.
I want a more reliable car.
I want to to get along with my family better.

Rather than

I dont want to goto work.
I dont want to have to fix my car anymore.
I dont want to argue with my family.

Maybe you guys need to read the entire book too see what I am talking about. But a lot of you guys are doing exactly what it says not too do.

"This book does contain some good common sense, even though its mixed in with some nonsensual BS it still has good basic info on what we all should practice."

Basically what you SHOULD take from it is that you may not get rich and get that nice ferrari, but its in achieving improvement in your life and only focusing on the good that will bring you happiness.

Balance is extremely important, and this idea is to bring balance into your life. Simple as that.

Really?..I thought it was "what you think about you attract more of into your life". I thought it was like thinking is more likely to lead to action, to results. Kinda like our dreams sow the seeds to helping us reach our goals if we believe in chasing them. Sortof a metaphysical way of goal setting.

Yes, if you think positively you attract positivity into your life. I live by this thought strongly. It has been a GIGANTIC change it really works. I got rid of dramatic friends in my life and started thinking more positively and I have complete balance now.

The secret had several main goals in changing your mode of thought.
One was to not say I dont want anymore, to start saying what you do want.
Another was to Visualize your dream house or dream car and things would happen in your life that would lead you to recieving those things.

You visualize your dream car, and magically a turn of events would happen to lead you to getting that car. A new job opportunity perhaps.

Yea, this was basically what the Secret was explaining. That as long as you affirm in a positive way, truly believe in the affirmation, and allow yourself permission to recieve it, then it shall be done.

This is all about removing negative blocks, doubts, self hate, so that we can function on a higher level, i guess. Normal day to day functioning isn't making the best of our abilities, and i truly believe that those with more connection with their instincts or higher selves will be most likely to live an authentic and more worthwhile life...Money rich or not.

I went through a phase of reading self help books at the Library, and i must admit i found "The secret", to be an easy to use positive book. Like yourself i did not dwell on the "negative red ferrari" bit, but looked to it's higher aims and how it could work for self realisation.

Now i don't wanna sound negative here, but i'm surprised at the negative comments on this thread, and obviously the others didn't open up to the bigger picture, but "sweated the small stuff" of triviality. In doing so, they missed the great lessons to learn because they were bitching over some materialistic issue their exacting egos couldn't overlook!

I find this to be a common theme on the Nexus, and i urge people to try and open their minds a bit more instead of being so critical and smallminded. We are supposed to be open minded and a bit more enlightened than this i thought.

A good example of what your saying would be the darker side of DMT.

The nexus community seems to overlook it as "a part of a good thing that you may not like but can learn from"

I think this same ideology can/should be used in everyday life. You can't and shouldnt single out something just because it contains bad information. People should look at the whole of something and be able to pick out the positive info that is within.

We all need to apply this same train of thought to everything posted on here

Just glanced through and saw this. I find it better to say ''I have a better job'' ''I have an awesome car'' etc. As soon as you ''want'' something you are denying that you have it. After you visualize and tell yourself you have it, don't stay attached to the outcome. Just my 0.002 pennies

That would only work if it were true. The whole point off the secret and what I'm saying is about self improvement. If you see your self as not needing any improvement, which would be pretty egotistical, then yes your comment would apply.

And to add those were just example of some things people "may" say. For instance I have no issues with my family but I do need a better car. I DO NOT have an awesome car. It needs work that would cost more than it is worth in monetary value. So like I said your comment doesn't always apply.

It wasn't more expensive than most other books the same size, but most importantly, he's not trying to bullshit us with some propaganda infused "secret" scam. I'm not a fan of the author itself (he's not keen on psychedelics...), but his book was really a true gift for me and everyone I gave it to.
And if you can't afford it (15$), it's easy to find it in PDF or even mp3 on the peer to peer network of your choice.

There are other books on the same theme, some not copyrighted because they are thousands of years old like the Tao itself, but then it's much more difficult to take the time to understand the ancestral lessons of the Tao in our crazy consumerist society.

Or if you're still not convinced, there are other money grabbing books like "The Four Agreements: A Practical Guide to Personal Freedom, A Toltec Wisdom Book" in the same vein : awakening one to the beauty of the moment and the traps of the ego/mind.

Anything but "The Secret". There is no secret. Only one truth.

Money is a force keeps you alive, experience good things, and help the poor.

Money grabbing scheme of rich bastards? This is a negative attitude to having money.

You are in control of yourself and your values differ from other people.
