I recently read the power by rhonda byrne and watched the secret film by rhonda byrne. My outlook on life is now extremely positive and I'm working towards my goals. This is powerful stuff guys

the secret was to be honest one of the crappiest new age films I have yet to see. I did not really get much from that video other than some woman cashed in on saying something we all know..that positive outlook helps up..the rest was a lot of new age gullability and rediculousness.

Maybe it is just me, I dunno..I just pesonally it in horrible taste when someone takes something like that that we all know, and says it in far too many fancy words to get rich and all these new age soccer moms run out to pay for it and then praise it for the next 10 years. Something about that is highly undesirable..

its a simple concept that was drawn out. If think positively you'll find positive patterns if you think negatively you will find negative patterns.

Pretty much what DNA is saying (I think) that the MSG is a good one. How the MSG got there or if some one is making tons of money putting the MSG out there is completely beside the point and IMO doesn't/shouldn't take away from it.

One shouldn't be held back from a good idea just because a scumbag was carrying it.

The secret though does hint strongly towards some inconceivable ideas. You cannot simply will a Ferrari into your driveway by saying "I will make lots of money" the idea has some good ideas hidden within it but it seems to promise some things that are just outright retarded.

I listened to the entire audiobook a long time ago. What I took from it is that your thoughts are either of pessimistic or optimistic nature. The more pessimistic your thoughts the more negativism you are going to attract to yourself. And that this works in more than just your mind. The people you hang out with family ect. All play a role. I ended up distancing myself from "energy vampires", people who are constantly pessimistic or make dumb decisions and/or have drama in their lives.

I am a much better and happier person because I learning this. It changed my life drastically. I am much more satisfied with the people I hang out with and have made ground with self improvement. Although its important to take what "the secret" says and sift through the bullshit. Which is 60% of it IMO

It is a painfully obvious idea... That unfortunately most modern humans need to have pointed out to them. That may be part of why she chose that title.

I've read a lot of books in that sort of new age/fringe philosophy genre, and even the most trite of it usually has at least a couple good take-home usable nuggets in it. This may all be packaging, but I'll take whatever works. These days, though, I don't have the time to waste reading about the obvious.

The reason the secret works is due to ones frame of mind. The stronger you make it, the more successful you will be. If you believe that things will turn out great for you, you're mind enters a state of readiness in which it's ready to solve problems and figure things out. Science has shown that the brain has enhanced cognitive ability when it's happy. The take away here is that the happier you are, and the more you believe in a goal the more likely you are to achieve it, and the better you're ability to plan for it will be.

I would like to now take the time to share some groundbreaking idea with you all. Happiness is not a reward, it's a state of mind. You can chose to be happy, or you can chose to be unhappy. Remember, you are at you're best when you are happy.

That's not very ground breaking. I preach this same thing to a friend of mine who is constantly depressed. The thing is what your referring to as happiness as not being a reward is partially incorrect. You may be able to choose to be happy. But only after you have rid your self of things that cause worry and stress, then you will feel happiness that comes naturally. Which is very rewarding.

Not a fan of new age religion, does it focus on that?

Its main focus is visualizing yourself in the future you want in the secret movie. The book the power goes into being grateful for what you've got and being thankful for other peoples success to generate your own success. Thats what sticked out to me in the first read.

^^ this and then it also touches base into some ridiculous ideas. For instance that you can get rich by simply visualizing yourself with lots of money. I remember a part where it said something about drawing on a piece of paper what you want and I think even when you want it (can't remember exactly) and place it in your pocket and your suppose to focus on it everyday.

I made an attempt. I drew a picture of myself (stick figure) lifting a car with my mind in a parking lot. I tried it after quite awhile. Unfortunately im stuck with having to use hydraulic jacks to lift cars still.

Any method is as good as any other depending on the practitioner and how much they put into it. Either way it always pays to be on the optimistic side of things, it seems.

This is my main problem with the book. Not just that wishing a Ferrari into your driveway is an unrealistic goal in the first place, I find it rather contradictory to use spiritual practice to enhance material wealth...which will allegedly make you happier. So even if "the secret" is true, it still seems clearly marketed in a way to convince the reader to buy it because when they know the secret, they will get richer (increase their materialistic urges). After all, you'd probably spend less time dwelling on material goods such as a Ferrari if you believed it were completely out of reach. The Secret ironically encourages materialism through spirituality. Now, if for whatever reason, you're doing it selflessly and you happen to get a Ferrari, that's another thing because intentions and goals matter IMO, and draw the fine line between the hypocrite and its counterpart.



That's the other thing. I feel the book places too much emphasis on positivity, and not enough of balance. If you tip the scales in an overwhelmingly positive way, then "what goes up must come down". I don't mean to seem so negative here because positive thinking has done wonders for me...but so has balance, and ultimately I feel that balance is a more realistic and secure mode of being that is still plenty spiritual. It may underplay getting everything you've ever wanted, but it'll keep you plenty prepared to deal with whatever comes your way.

When they say that the 1% of rich has understood the Secret and that's why they're rich, I had enough.
The richer human beings are, the more ego they have, by definition.

The problem of mankind is ego. And The Secret is just another manifestation of it.

Want to really grow up ? Get "A New Earth" by Eckhart Tolle. Taoism with modern words. THAT is the secret.

And do a lot of tryptamines (shrooms/Aya/DMT). You'll get there.
