I know it will be a simple question for most but i was a little bit confused as this is my first time.

"1 - Powderize your cactus. Mix 100 grams of dried green outer cactus flesh with 25 grams of calcium hydroxide. Add 300 ml water to make it feel wet but not watery. Mix for about 5 minutes.

2 - Add 300 ml of d-limonene (orange oil). Mix well. Let sit a few hours.

3 - Pour off the d-limonene through a filter.

4 - Add 20 ml of water and 5 ml of 10% HCl solution to the d-limonene. Mix thoroughly. NOTE: DO NOT USE CONCENTRATED HYDROCHLORIC ACID. IT MUST BE DILUTED AS SPECIFIED OR A BUNCH OF JUNK WILL PRECIPITATE OUT OF THE D-LIMONENE."


In step 3 it says, "pour off the d-limonene through a filter."
Is that stating to seperate the top layer of d-limonene from the water/gunk and then filter?

OR is it saying filter all your liquids/gunk from step 1 and 2 through a filter?


ALSO i am using xylene instead of d-limonene, does that somehow make a difference in this step?
My d-limonene will be arriving in a few weeks aswell as 3m of sexy cactiii

I've been told to pour off the majority of the D-limonene through a filter into a separate vessel straining out the sediment contained in the top 80% of the d-limonene not the the bulk of the cactus sludge at the bottom. Youll need that in there for the following mixes.

You'll want to do this 3-5 times. pouring off the top 80% each time.
