Check out Animals As Leaders. Not exactly metal, but some of it is quite crunchy. No vocals. Crazy guitar stuff... Maybe on LSD? Havent tried that but I bet it would be interesting...

Beat me to it. Animals As Leaders is AMAZING, even if you don't usually listen to metal. If you've never heard it, definitely check it out.

I say no to metal on DMT. However, LSD and hyper technical music is always a very appealing combination to me. Usually. I saw Chick Koreal's Electrik Band once while I was tripping and it was shockingly boring and annoying. Keep in mind that a piece of lint from my pocket could hold my interest for hours while on LSD.
I haven't taken LSD in 20 years, but I'll bet Animals As Leaders would be a good choice for an acid trip. Technical and exotic. Hyper-kinetic and intelligent. Those elements combined with the personal knowledge that Tosin Abassi is a nice and very humble guy. He used to work at a music store in my state and he was always such a great guy. Before I ever heard him play, I was in Atomic Music trying out an amp and somebody asked me what kind of music I played. Tosin piped up "that dude can play anything".
That just shows how humble he is. Compared to him, technically, I suck, yet he found value in my playing. When I eventually heard him play I was amazed that he was impressed by my playing.
It's rare to come across stunningly adept players who aren't full of themselves, especially in the field of metal. the un-full-of-shitness really comes through in Animals As Leaders. A lot of technical stuff loses it's soul. Not these guys. Their music is alive and feels organic in a genre not known for that quality. Very psychedelic too. In the sense that it presents as music that is seemingly impossible and it shines with a kind of ecstatic energy.
Speaking of guitar players who are full of themselves, I knew the guitar player for a band charmingly called Dying Fetus, and he referred to himself as a guitar god and regularly talked about how everyone else sucked. Not a very nice person and although his music is impressive, it's definitely not the kind of metal I'd want to hear while tripping.
I understand that some metal is appealing for it's ugliness (see Wormed), but I'm not sure I'd like that mixed with psychedelics.
Some really interesting and strange metal that might work well with psychedelics is by a band called Virus. Their 2011 release The Agent That Shapes the Desert, is really worth checking out. It is fairly avant garde, but still accessible. Really interesting approach with harmonic structures unheard of in metal. Really odd stuff.

Sorry for my rambling. Must be something I inhaled.

For me I don't like to listen to metal on psychedelics.

I do love metal though.

Recently I discovered something which for the first time I reckon is worthy of the label 'psychedelic metal'. It's pretty funny googling around some of the reviews of this and seeing what they make of the lyrics and vocals and overall style but anyone who has turned on will get it instantly Smile. A masterpiece, in my view.

I speak of "Sol Niger Within", by Frederik Thordendal's Special Defects.

Death, as in the band Death are absolute bliss. The riffs and time signatures and just about the whole package has a mystical feel for me.
If anyone is at all interested the songs to check out would be trapped in a corner off the 'individual thought patterns' album and crystal mountain off the 'symbolic' album. Truly brilliant progressive/technical metal.
I definitely recommend it to anyone that enjoys metal that comes from the soul Smile

Last time I listened to metal while smoking DMT, I was thrust to the bleeding edge of the doorway and smashed against it in ecstasy for about 7 minutes... But breaking through it was not even a remote possibility.

To this day, that was the strongest energetic experience *inside my body* that I've had in my life.
But to this day, it's also the most completely I have been held back despite proper set, setting, dose and sync. (Minus the metal, of course)

No negative reflection at all though... it was an amazing experience in every right, probably one of my fondest DMT memories Very happy And who knows, you might slip right through like the kid who borrowed his daddy's Stingray on promnight.

Not sure if you guys have heard this guy!

But to all of you who are into Animals as Leaders and that sort of prog-metal stuff like I am. Or God is an Astronaut, I think you will enjoy this wonderful instrumental music Very happy

If I had some spice I would give it a shot with this music, very uplifting to me.

That just the whole thing, all the songs are good so I just thought I would post them all.

Walter

PS thanks for all the replies guys!

Haha, I've had some pretty good times with DMT and Animals as Leaders Very happy It's a bit gratuitous for my taste when tripping, but no real complaints. You may really like Cult of Luna if your into that style of progressive. That's probably the best time I've had with a good dose and some tunes.

Put on your big boy pants and go for it (I think this is an instrumental) http://www.youtube.com/w...Wj6Y&feature=related

Another good band is, I think Intronaut album Valley Of Smoke.

It has a collaboration with the bass player from Tool. The song with album's name is in my opinion the best.

^couple of their best ones

or the best metal band of all time to me is Lamb of God. I bet you guys have heard of them, so no need to post links or anything. I wonder how they would effect a dmt trip?

But hope you guys enjoy the music!

Not really metal this one, but it fits in to the genre lightly. But I like it a lot.

I...don't know if you know Cynic has a new album "Carbon Based Anatomy"

Personally I think it's their best work yet.
