So I came back from out of the country and within 40 minutes of being home I'm already confronted with something stupid.
Someones BMW is in the front of my apartment complex, every window shattered including the sunroof and the windshield, all the tires are slashed, cables pulled from the engine, yeah it's screwed.
So me and my roommate drive by it and we're like holy mother and get out to look and see whats going on. We walk around it and of course impeccably timed the owner is outside 20 feet away. She runs up to us yells at us and accuses us of being the ones who did this to her car. She takes pictures of me and my friend and takes a picture of his license plate. Continues to accuse us with no proof while I try to tell her we were just looking because this kind of stuff doesn't really happen in our area a lot, I told her I understood where she was coming from doing this and that I felt bad but I'm pretty sure she was "positive" we did it.
Anyways, me being the jackass I am when walking around the car picked up no larger than a quarter inch by quarter inch square glass cutting from one of the windows and dropped it on the ground, looking back I know this was pretty dumb but yeah I did touch the car, technically.
So..what does anyone make of this, I know I'm fine but it's annoying because I have anxiety and blow things to extreme levels inside my head and I hate it. Any advice is appreciated.

Most people see reason when they calm down, I'm sure the lady will aswell. Black then white are all I see in my infancy.
Red and yellow then came to be,
reaching out to me, lets me see.
There is so much more and it beckons me to look though to these,
infinite possibilities.
As below so above and beyond I imagine,
drawn outside the lines of reason.

You live in the complex, right? That fact alone should help her to see reason... That you're not some random stranger.

I believe the neighbor would need an actual witness to the act of vandalism in order to arouse any real interest from the fuzz. And why do you look at the speck in your brother's eye, but do not percieve the plank in your own eye? Don't know what country you live in, but if it was "Big Brother UK" chances are a video cam would have picked up footage of the real culprits.
A witness is always needed in such cases, so I wouldn't worry too much.

You could see it as a test. The woman percieves of you as the culprit. Either that or she is ashamed that she did now that she came to her senses. Either way you can't control what she thinks of you. So live with that. I believe you're speaking the truth, that should be enough. The irony is that you wanted to know what happened, and now you do. YOU did it! hahaha. -

Not to mention that you were out of the country and had only been home for 40 minutes. A cop could possibly come talk to you but he would be able to easily asses the situation and come to the conclusion that you had nothing to do with it. Thanks everyone, and yeah my other roommate not the one who was with me at the time saw me come home and was like oh you're finally home! and the car was vandalized last night so I know he would cover me.

Like others said the lady will calm down and see reason, you would have to have baseball bats and knives on you to do that kind of damage. You're going to more than likely be questioned at your home so make sure that if you have anything that is illegal, hide it well. I know someone who had their house broken into and a neighbor called the police. When the guy got back to his apt they arrested him for intent to distribute because he had a scale and vacuum sealer.
