I don't desire more intelligence and I don't expect my use of DMT to accomplish this. I can't conceive of being more or less intelligent than I am now. I don't think anyone at any moment in his or her life is aware of how intelligent they are. Perceptions are everything, and DMT like other psychs changes perceptions. I find it difficult to believe that I actually learn anything from closing my eyes and laying down for several hours while mimosa-huasca does its thing. Rather the experience changes what I already now. "Culture is NOT your friend" - TMK

Dmt destroyed what I though I knew and understood, if any thing it showed me just how unintelligent I am. Black then white are all I see in my infancy. Red and yellow then came to be, reaching out to me, lets me see. There is so much more and it beckons me to look though to these, infinite possibilities. As below so above and beyond I imagine, drawn outside the lines of reason. Push the envelope. Watch it bend.

Just like a book or class or field trip can teach you something new I believe the spice can be a good teacher as well I agree with this outlook on it. I wouldn't say it necessarily made me more intelligent, but it certainly showed me some things about myself, and human nature in general, and even the afterlife, that I otherwise wouldn't have known. So as far as my open-mindedness, it's certainly affected that for the better. But I would by no means say I feel more adept at understanding the world around me, but rather it taught me a few ambiguous things about the world around me; namely, that it isn't the only world.

There is conclusive evidence that DMT promotes learning and memory formation. Please read the following post: http://www.reddit.com/r/...chedelics_as_nootropics/

there is seldom conclusive evidence for any theory, you'd be hard-pressed to find a research paper which claims conclusive evidence, especially a claim as the one proposed here. plausible would be a better description (it obviously won't affect everyone the same) "Nothing is true, everything is permitted." ~ hassan i sabbah "Experiments are the only means of attaining knowledge at our disposal. The change of perspective and ideal of ones self I think gives such a foreign feeling that you have no choice but to learn something. I did DMT for the first time over a week ago and I still am feeling things I know for certain that I never felt before. I can figure things out a lot easier, or at least not sit and "wonder" for a period of time that is otherwise distracting. Everything is just a lot more fluid and clear.

There is nothing to be gained from philosophical or theoretical insight. If what you learn has nothing to do with math, you are no more intelligent then when you started learning, and that is a scientific fact (as i can mathematically demonstrate). then tell me.. what new facet of practical intelligence did you gain, and how are you applying it? psychobabble makes for interesting pot banter, but not much use for anything else. trip reports are entertaining, individual inner space explorations; but what sort of intelligence are you really gaining? are you approaching worldly problems from a new perspective? like has already been said... these drugs won't necessarily make you more intelligent. Problem solving might make you smarter. Philosophizing might make you wiser. Psychedelic drugs give you an experience that you can either analyze or not.

I've seen this debate rise again and again in psychedelic circles, usually with two camps, each bearing what I consider to be an extreme and unworkable opinion. One camp says, "Yes, absolutely, psychedelics make you smarter. Of course they do. Take 'em and get smarter." The other camp, equally ridiculously, says, "No, under no circumstances can you ever become smarter from psychedelics no matter what, ever." Neither of these positions seems very profitable to me. What my experience, and the experience of those I've known, has suggested, is that psychedelics are catalysts for expanding the possible. They make tools and perspectives available that might not have been available without them. What I DO think is that, if you are driven to seek intelligence and understanding, if you crave learning and comprehension, then when combined with a number of other practices (a healthy diet, a daily life filled with new ideas, a focusing practice such as yoga, etc), psychedelics make it possible to access tools to increase your intelligence. In short, they make it possible for YOU to make YOU smarter. Ceci n'est pas Thesmorphia.

I don't think the work of DMT has increased my intelligence, How ever, I do believe DMT showed me that I shouldn't judge anything -- ever -- period. Instead I should just experience what is happening and just take it in for what it is instead of identifying anything in particular and then react accordingly. After I stopped being judgmental, I can open my eyes, ears, mouth and brain to new ideas and functions of the world of possibilites. Existence is an illusion of an experience with states of minds and functions of memory to entice you that it is in fact real.

Agonism at the 5HT1A, 5HT2A, 5HT2C and 5HT7 has been demonstrated to modulate the plasticity of neurons. Furthermore, DMT has been shown to induce production of new serotonin receptors.
DMT clearly modulates memory through serotonin specific mechanisms. While there is no direct evidence for it increasing your "IQ", the random neural firing induced by DMT directly enhances creativity, as it causes combinations of neural pathways to activate together that normally would not work in tandem. I believe with the proper training and cognitive exercises performed while under the influence of DMT, it is probably possible to increase "IQ", however the substance does not have this character alone.

lots of compounds are involved with neuroplasticity, and 5HT modulation. aniracetam is one of them. aniracetam is also an agonist at AMPA-1, the receptors directly involved with learning. ampakines would be better suited for actual learning enhancement "Nothing is true, everything is permitted." ~ hassan i sabbah "Experiments are the only means of attaining knowledge at our disposal.
