Anyone doing extraction with n-heptane or other non-naptha solvent? Options

It's not really possible to get naptha here or I don't know yet in which form it can be found. As a result instead of naptha n-heptane is used. Only tek I've tried so far is Lazyman's one, with n-heptane replacing naptha.

Problem is I'm getting very low yields - not more than 0.5% after re-crystallization (with n-heptane again) while people here are reporting 1-2%. I did maybe 5 extracts and still haven't found the way how to get more with heptane. Usually making one extract from 100-200g of MHRB, with 5-8 pulls each, I get ~1% of yellowish stuff.

So, question is, as in topic, what is your experience with n-heptane or have you tried other non-naptha solvents in your extractions?

Good quality Syrian rue (Peganum harmala) for an incredible price!

Is n-heptane the same as heptane? I use bestine for pulling sometimes and the only difference I notice is that it smells better than naptha and my crystals are whiter. The yields are usually about the same.

Heptane works, like hexane. Naphtha is a mix of hydrocarbons like pentane, hexane, heptane, octane, etc (different brands/producers of naphtha may use different amounts of these fractions). The name is given by the amount of carbons, so 5 carbons is pentane, 6 is hexane, 7 heptane, etc. The higher it goes, the higher the boiling point is, the longer it takes to evap.

If you get just one of the fractions, like heptane, then it dissolves DMT but not too much, and its quite selective it doesnt dissolve much else like plant impurities (which is why its great re-x solvent). If you have a mixture of hydrocarbons like naphtha, it usually will dissolve DMT a bit better because it's like the different hydrocarbons "complement" in a way.

But you can still get good yield with heptane if you go heavy on the NaOH, and do warm pulls, with long, thorough mixing, and many pulls.

You can also look into limonene or xylene/toluene which will dissolve even more DMT (and some plant impurities and a tiny bit of other alkaloids), but you have to salt them out (check BLAB tek for example on the limonene salting part).

And yeah, n-heptane is the same as heptane

Seems like heptane is a good way to go Smile

I tried warm pulls but got more yellowish stuff at the end, so I dropped this idea. Will try again, maybe after re-x I get more yield of pure stuff. Didn't try higher ratios of lye, so it's another thing to try. Thanks, endlessness Smile
