First of all I'd like to than everyone who makes the Nexus possible. This is by far the most helpful community the internet has to offer.

Love

It really is reflective of how psychedelics can and should be used and created with a loving passion for purity, knowledge, individuality and respect.

So I'd like to share some photos and thoughts on my first successful BL/AB. Using FASI and 112g MHRB from HP (about a year ago).

I'm suspicious of the final yield (2.9-3.0%) because when I re-crystalized after the initial precipitation using water during the evap phase there was a lot of floating white/tan chunks from beginning to end.

Here's the pics I'd love to hear what you guys think! Should I wash it with cold IPA and purify it more? or does it look like it's pretty pure already?

Was the FASI dehydrated? If there was water in your IPA, it's possible that you're looking at some residual fumaric acid.

The IPA was 99% so I didn't dehydrate it. Do you figure the 1% is enough to worry about?

So I'm thinking Narmz's method in this post is looking like the best method for me.

Here is a quick run-down of cleaning DMT fumarate of excess fumaric acid and plant oils.

1. Dissolve your DMT fumarate in boiling Hot 99% IPA.
2. Filter solution with cotton (especially if there remains a small amount of undissolved solids)
3. Place solution in Freezer over night.
4. Decant IPA and dry your fumarates.

I'm not really 100% comfortable heating IPA, I'm willing to give it a slight hot water bath, but approaching boiling hot is really tricky for me (and I definitely won't do the hot water bath with DMT dissovled in IPA)

I'd do something like this:

1. Give IPA hot water bath until fairly warm
2. Add warm IPA to DMT fumarate and stir/shake
3. Place solution in freezer overnight
4. decant IPA from fumarates

Will that also work fairly well?

If you don't want to boil ipa, you could always freebase the fumarates with a lime paste and pull again with dry iso after drying the paste.

Then add fasi, and collect your fumarates upon precipitation. Guaranteed no excess oils/fats/fumaric acid that way too.

In a society in which nearly everybody is dominated by somebody else's mind or by a disembodied mind, it becomes increasingly difficult to learn the truth about the activities of governments and corporations, about the quality or value of products, or about the health of one's own place and economy.
In such a society, also, our private economies will depend less upon the private ownership of real, usable property, and more upon property that is institutional and abstract, beyond individual control, such as money, insurance policies, certificates of deposit, stocks, etc. And as our private economies become more abstract, the mutual, free helps and pleasures of family and community life will be supplanted by a kind of displaced citizenship and by commerce with impersonal and self-interested suppliers...
The great enemy of freedom is the alignment of political power with wealth. This alignment destroys the commonwealth - that is, the natural wealth of localities and the local economies of household, neighborhood, and community - and so destroys democracy, of which the commonwealth is the foundation and practical means.” - Wendell Berry

Interesting. The only thing I'm worried about is losing yields from going back-forth too many times.

My eventual plan is to put about half in a vial for longish term storage/oral/nasal usage and make the rest into freebase for some initial vapourization experiments. Can always freebase the fumarates later.

I have a little more fumarates evapping in a dish as we speak—so once I scrape those up I'll make the decision on clean up..

Yu have to boil the IPA for Narmz's method, otherwise the fumarates won't dissolve

I'm just going to convert 0.3g to freebase and experiment with smoking the product as is

I have access to acetone, but my evap test resulted in some sticky left overs (not entirely confident this was acetone impurity so I should do a 2nd evap test) so I'm sort of lost at the best method to clean up my fumarates for storage.

They look pretty clean so we'll see how vapourizing goes, probably the best way to discover the purity without-any-doubts.

BTW

I'm a little unclear what the advantages of washing spice fumarate with IPA/Acetone versus H20?

I'm probably over-thinking things right?

It's as simple as mixing fumarates with water, stirring, then decant spice saturated water away from un-reacted fumaric acid?

It just seems so simple that it can't be the best way to do it ...

Why dont you divide your batch in two or three, and clean it up with different methods and then compare the purity/yield loss/etc ?

If you do that, you can take pictures and post your notes in that fumarates clean up thread, so that it increases the knowledge of the whole community Smile

I suggest you try to do some cleaning on a small batch at least and compare the effects. Killer yield, so I think you should be fine with slight loss, especially if the yield was so high due to impurities?

Good advice endlessness. Sharing is Caring!

I'm just preparing my mind with info so that I don't make two disasters!

My new acetone evap test was super clean so I'll definitely be cleaning half my batch with your acetone cleanup as per that thread.

WAS IT DRY ACETONE?

... I'm a little unsure what I should do for the second clean up.

type 3 conversion to freebase
I tried this on 348mg un-purified fumarates .. while the product was definitely active the resulting product was extremely ugly and hygroscopic—not good for storage in glass vials.

Also out of 348mg 6 pulls with IPA resulted in only 85mg—which was enough to get myself and two friends to a very nice pre-breakthrough, but extremely visual (we weren't trying to break through) plus theres probably still 25mg+ in the mini-machine. It seems like a pretty ridiculous loss ... I used 348mg spice w/ 348mg sodium carb. Did I perhaps use too little base?

So i'm thinking a water clean up and an acetone cleanup. Gonna sleep on it a few nights before I embark upon my pictorial. I'm in no rush really just want to do this right so I have some nice smokables and stashables for the later summer. Plus learn something!

Yes, but does the process described here by endlessness use dry or non-dry acetone?

I'm not a chemist but personally I would freebase all that stuff and do a sodium carbonate wash.
Why do you people want fumarate anyways. You're IV'ing that kitchen made stuff are you?

Needles aren't my friends. I don't like sticking needles in any part of my body—especially not veins. So no ... and even if I did want to IV I definitely would have higher purity standards than this kitchen creation—indeed.

But I do plan on a few oral w/ MAOI voyages and one or two insufflated because the increased length is something I consider valuable.

Plus I'm assuming cleaner fumarates will produce cleaner freebase.
