While the film itself is a bit of a flop (imo) despite being technicaly perfect, there are some scenes which are very "DMT esque" and I mean full spectrum breakthrough type. I almost wonder if the director has been doing some "extra curicular travelling "in order get this film done.

Yeah, with the grand holographic sequences in particular, I was thinking the same thing. I didn't really care for the movie at all, but those holograms were cool "Science without religion is lame. Religion without science is blind" - Albert Einstein

One of the first scenes where the alien dude was drinking that "tea" from the little cup i was like OMG ayahuasca! and then crazy shit started to happen with his veins and DNA and he tripped out ... graphics were amazing. I enjoyed the movie. Cant wait to see the next one (there will obviously be a sequel) PS

On the other hand, I loved this movie. I'm a huge fan of the alien trilogy (#4 doesn't get included). This movie was spot on as being a prequel. I cannot wait for the next one. I also thought "ayahuasca" when he drank from the little cup! There already is, Alien. "I would never die for my beliefs because I might be wrong." and "Sanity calms, but madness is more interesting." Bertrand Russell

There already is, Alien. Yes, but its kind of like star wars in that the last 3 movies were made first, then the first 3 movies were made 2nd. I expect 2 more movies to come out before the alien movies are prevalent. PS

I just saw "Prometheus" tonight. I have to say, I thought it was great! Mixing "Chariot of the Gods" type stuff in with horror and bio-engineering/bioweapons of the future... Pretty cool. SPOILER ALERT: Also, the giant monster @ the end was the most "Cuthulu-ian" creature I've seen on screen to date! Great job, Mr. Scott, great job! I loved it! Of course, there MUST be a sequel to this one. We have to find out what the Good Dr and the Cyborg discover on distant earths! "Christians often ask why God does not speak to them, as they believed God did in former days. When I hear such questions, it always makes me think of the Rabbi who was asked how it could be that God was manifest to people in the olden days whereas nowadays nobody ever sees God. The rabbi replied, 'Nowadays there is no longer anybody who can bow low enough.'" --Carl Jung

Yeah most likely the scene with the Cthulhu type engulfing the humanoid may be the birth of Predator. Its in your head

SPOILER ALERTscudge wrote:Yeah most likely the scene with the Cthulhu type engulfing the humanoid may be the birth of Predator. Are you talking about at the end when the monster/facehugger type think got on top of the engineer guy? What came out of his chest was an alien, so thats how the "aliens" were made. Not predator. I guarantee predator wont be part of the Prometheus trilogy. I loved it. Also thought the same about the alien at the start drinking the "aya". Can anyone explain what the significance or purpose of that was though? I haven't really figured out how it was connected to the rest of the film or why it did that. The trees spoke to me through the wind. The more I listened, the more they spoke.

I guess my expectations where high for a typical R. Scott film that evokes more empathy on the part of the viewer with the characters in the script. Original Alien, Gladiator, The Columbus film ( forget the title) are good examples of that for me. In Prometheus I couldn't care who got topped. Prometheus is too superficial on the character level, far too fast paced and degrades into a high tech horror fest from the mid part on. Despite that it does tend to stick in the mind a bit after, there is some mystery in it. And I loved those visual effects especially the holographic sequence as the badass alien prepares to pilot the craft.

The opening seen shows the original visit by " Our Ancestors" preparing to leave earth millions of years before man evolved. They leave behind one of their own to "seed" the DNA into the earths ecosystem. ( hence those DNA strand sequences in the water after he breaks up) The whole flick was based on the theory that our DNA is identical to theirs. All the alien shite that came after was then based on a cocked up bio-warfare experimental plant on one of Jupiters moons by said ancestors. I guess we get to "Know" a bit more in " Prometheus 2, 3, 4 and 5. ( it's all about the money)

Isn't that the purpose of a movie? I for one look forward to movies 2-5 PS

Spitefuls hardly the operative word, "critical-sarcasm laced "would be my choice. I paid me munny and am entitled to slag off Scotts big budget horror flick just as I see fit. But sure enjoy it yourself!

I thought the film was dissappointment . The alien crafts holographic display was the best thing in the movie . I say to the engineers , get over it you big babies. I also suspect an advanced bioengineering race would have most likely transcended to a higher level of consciousness . They are not much better than our own monkey asses. I,m a fan of first alien . It's a shame this movie was strattled with keeping to the whole trilogy . The ship sequences were killer !!
