i heard in news that there have been some deaths cause by poisonous mushrooms but i dont know how true this is. is there a chance if i grow my own that one day a random poisonous one will spawn or is this just another trick from the media. this could be from picking wild mushrooms as well which is why i would like to grow them cause i dont trust my identifying skills Confused . also is there an Australia website that has spores for sale (for mirco study of course Razz ) so it doesnt have to go through customs. i tried shroomery but people seem to be a lot more unhelpful then here. different crowd i guess. anyway feel free to pm as well

Do you have a source ? It is true poisonous mushrooms exist but if you keep a sterile environment then contamination from a poisonous species is highly unlikely. Sounds more like mainstream news fear-mongering than factual reporting.

pretty sure those deaths were from death cap also known as amanita phalloides and were eaten by a couple chefs or something in canberra, but were unrelated to psilocybin mushroom picking.. remember hearing about it in the news. as far as I know it was not fear mongering and was not stigmatised to psilocybe mushroom hunting... death cap is common around canberra and it is good that awareness is raised in my opinion.. as death is a very likely outcome of consumption of this species

i heard it on the tv news and they made it out to be magic mushrooms cause it was at a new years party or something but i found and paper article more in depth which said it was death cap mushrooms eaten at a restaurant before they went to the party. they kinda twisted it around. but if i used a golden teacher spore would this be a safe species to use

they sound terrible. i see how they could be mixed up for cooking mushrooms. they look very similar. i never heard of these but good that they try and make awareness for them

Yeah... you're not going to have any trouble with mushrooms that you've grown (as long as you're not growing a poisonous species ; )

there is only a small number of lethally poisonous mushrooms and i've never heard of anyone who was able to cultivate any. many of them only grow when living plants and trees are in the same soil, under very specific conditions which are impossible to create indoors or even in a garden.

If you're not careful with sterility, you might let contaminations in, and those can be deadly. They look nothing like a magic mushroom though, contaminations are molds and bacterias, easily recognizable from the fruits of god. If it's not snow white, it's probably not good... But you'll see that as you learn to grow them. Takes some time but it's a very rewarding journey.

If you got your spores (syringe or print) from a trusted online vendor, no chance you'll be growing a poisonous species.
Just get spores from Psilocybe Cubensis. And Golden Teacher is one of them, yes.

Sounds to me like the news story was deliberately cross pollinated with the magic mushroom meme for sensationalism purposes. It appears that these deaths had nothing whatsoever to do with psilocybin consumption... Different worlds.

Use trusted spores, follow the procedure, and not only will your shrooms be clean but they will love you more.
