I will cut to the chase. I seem to have been trouble falling asleep, because my dreams are too vivid? I have to concentrate on images inside my mind, and eventually they will "spiral" almost into a dream. I had to quit smoking weed, and I heard that this will result in very vivid dreams. But I did not expect them to be like this. They are so life-like, when I go to fall asleep I have trouble. I find myself doubting that it is even possible to dream like that. I remember having problems like this as a small child, but now they seem to be coming back.

Do you think this is a form of insomnia? Or that I might have too much anxiety? Or that I will just have to get used to this?

What I wrote above is just explaining how I feel, I don't really think this is the problem. I just wanted to see what you guys thought about it.

Any tips on how to remedy this?

Walter

P.S. Sorry if this is the wrong forum to put this in, if it is please move it!

First of all, I am jealous. You say you are having trouble falling asleep? Are you having trouble going to sleep because you are weirded out by how real your dreams are?

I have been trying for some 14 years to have a vivid dreams, I have only had 2.

No this is not insomnia. If this persists of course you will have to get used to it.

I would do this as a remedy, ENJOY IT. Play around with it, see what you can do. Have fun. Do things in your dream you have never done before. You Can Control it.

You are having, hypothetically, miniature DMT trips.

Actually I would think that having very vivid dreams is a sign you could potentially master lucid dreaming or astral projection. I wouldn't look a gift like that as something to be gotten over. Like Anrchy, I'm jealous of you my friend!

However if it's really causing you grief in your waking life, may I recommend a healthy dose of cannabis before bedtime? Pot knocks me out cold into a deep, dreamless sleep (and my love for it is probably why I rarely ever dream).

you know, I've been having problems with my dreams for years now(possibly 5-6) for about 3-4 years starting with the age of 15 I somehow(at least that's what I think) stopped dreaming. I just woke up with not even the slightest image of a dream, nothing, zero, nada, null...

In the last 2 years(almost 3 now) my dreams came back...

Also very strange and I think it is tied to my personal problem somehow. I started sleepting on my chest since I was 15...then 2 years ago I tried sleeping on my back and...WOW just WOW, I have the most vivid dreams imaginable when I sleep on my back, just like the ones I used to have as a child. Although I sleep most the time on my chest, sometimes when I want to have these crazy ultra real dreams I put myself into a really relaxed state, I clear my mind while on my back(like a blank paper concentrating only on my breathing) and POW it's like the deepest trips one can imagine...

This is where it gets really strange...I feel like nauseous right before I rip out of my "here state" as I like to call it and snap into this weird and fascinating world...it's like the mother of all trips every time I do the relaxing bit, followed by this nauseous(almost bad-throwing up- feeling) then I overcome that by staying calm and it hits me BOOM like a sledge hammer.

Is it the same for you? like really really deep trip like dream?...and interesting because I have them only when I sleep on my back

I seem to have gotten mixed up, Walter... Did you mean VIVID or LUCID? I know you said vivid but I thought you meant LUCID. They are way different. I have had MANY vivid dreams, but only 2 Lucid dreams.

See my biggest problem is not that I cant Lucid dream, its that I almost only remember my dreams if I get stoned or drunk before going to bed (and I can only smoke rarely). I used to have the craziest non lucid dreams Every Night. They were like 10 grams of mushrooms visual wise. They just stopped out of nowhere. I have tried diet changes, added supplements, slept differently, different pillows-thickness and plushness, sleeping longer/shorter, eaten before or fasted, NOTHING WORKS.

yet If I take a fatty hit off my bubbler, which will completely destroy my ability to do anything, absolutely ANYTHING, yet I will dream so clearly, not lucid

This post maybe slightly off the OPs topic, but have a look at this link for a proper nasty sleep problem: Shocked Twisted Evil Stop

I am paranoid of my brain. It thinks all the time, even when I'm asleep. My thoughts assail me. Murderous lechers they are. Thought is the assassin of thought. Like a man stabbing himself with one hand while the other hand tries to stop the blade. Like an explosion that destroys the detonator. I am paranoid of my brain. It makes me unsettled and ill at ease. Makes me chase my tail, freezes my eyes and shuts me down. Watches me. Eats my head. It destroys me.

Well it is not like I really lucid dream. It is just vivid. But it feels like I begin my dreams in my head, I start the setting. And then the dream goes where it wishes to go.

You guys responses make me feel a lot better though, I was just worried that this was not a good thing at all. And that it was caused by a minor decrease in health. Or something of the sorts.

I cannot smoke cannabis at the moment, but oh do I know well of the sleeping powers it has! Very happy

To explain the whole dream thing better I will explain how I do this. To begin with I have developed a technique which has proven to help me start sleeping better. Even though it is a bit hard now, but that just might be because I am used to it. I will imagine a am on a clock (for example) and that I am on the very end of one of the hand. I start to stimulate the feeling I would get while spinning on it. I try to imagine the clock and room stationary, while I spin. This causes a sort of plunging feeling in my stomach. And causes my consciousness to start to fade. This used to seem to work in distracting my mind into sleep. But lately I have just had to start scenarios inside my head. Given last night. I started a scenario with me and my friends at the park talking, I then added a man standing in the adjacent field. This lead to a dream where the man turned out to be Stephen King, and was asking us ideas for his new horror stories. This is just an example. Usually after these dreams I wake up and feel numb, and sort of shocked. And you could maybe say a little sick. Usually I have been able to go back into deep sleep again. But lately I haven't been able to do that at all, and must restart the process. And every dream is different! Which is the weird thing. I feel like if I do not dream, then I do not get rest. When in reality I feel like my dreams wear me out.

I don't really know if this helps to explain it at all. But thank you for your guys' replies so far! Smile
