I have not worked with ayahuasca in a little while now, and prior to my next experience I'd like to formulate a better game plan. I'm not trying to make things too complicated but rather playing around with different techniques to get the best brew. I am thinking this method would also work for preparing cactus tea as well.

-Soak mhrb in several drops of muriatic acid and water for an indeterminate amount of time in nonmetal container or ceramic slow cooker.
-Decant/strain/filter out mhrb.
-Boil and reduce liquid completely in a nonmetal broiler without burning until hydrochloric acid evaporates out.
-Reconstitue with desired amount of water and consume.

My thinking is that this will leave me with a non-acidic brew that will be more palatable and will also allow for complete control over the dose size. The idea is also that the hydrochloride salts of the alkaloids are the most ideal for oral consumption.

I am no ayahuasca expert. But it sounds like a good idea. If you do it, I would love to hear how it turns out! It sounds a lot simpler than other ways I have heard/tried.

Your recipe sounds just fine.

I would encourage you to just skip the acid altogether, do everything the same, minus acid, it is totally unneccesarry, if you boil it the proper way, you will need no acid to get all the alks.

Also ayahuasca usually refers to preparations containing the b. cappi vine, or ayahuasca vine. Many other plants can be added for different effects but the basis of the drink is almost always b. cappi, or a closely related vine.

Cheers and best of luck!

Irie,
Yeah totally, why use muriatic acid?
I like to use a cap full of cider vinegar....
Also if you're going to cold wash the mhrb do at least 3 washes, collecting before & reducing...
I never like to have to add water to bring back the volume.....just do it right to start with!
Also consider freezing & boiling to get everything out....
Whatcha going to do about maoi?

Also worry less about filtering. I find my best brews are with just a t-shirt!

Respect,
Z

ive been doing something simular, just add a splash of vineagar to water and do an herbal percolator(i keep adding more vineagar water until it runs mostly clear, the first two runs are VERY dark), then reduce in crock pot until about 1 cup of liquid, it seems to work well enough as i am able to fit a full dose in less then 100 ml of liquid generaly, but im concerned that its not getting all the goodies since according to the amount of substance i was starting out with, math says i should be able to get a dose in about 20 ml of liquid, next time im gonna try switching the steps brew first then percolate? anywhoo i like the vin cause there is no concern about some being in the final brew so i can just reduce to desired volume and not worry about reconstituting...
ive received the trans dermal download in the apousal lounge

I've brewed with vinegar in the past, basically just soaking, simmering, and reducing, without any issues. The first time I prepared and drank mimosahuasca, I used a recipe from Erowid and it was plenty potent, although that might have had everything to do with me using 15 grams of mhrb. I'm just looking to take a different approach. In the past I might have used too much vinegar, which thankfully isn't really a concern as compared to other acids, but I don't fancy the taste. Nor do my friends, one of whom is put off by the taste and hasn't yet had the honor. Also, this technique would be applicable to the preparation of any number of other ethnobotanicals. I recently read a very long but compelling thread regarding the use of hydrochloric acid:

Well this method certainly does work and achieves a neutral PH brew, but it is a hassle. My glass broiler gets far too hot at the final stages of reduction, so I ended up going to a Pyrex dish in my dehydrator. This method requires a good amount of supervision. Note that I did not actually consume the brew, but I have no reason to doubt the potency. I will be following the same procedure with san pedro in a week or so, the final result of which I will be consuming.
